Harry Irving

Harold Alexander Irving (March 4, 1927 – May 22, 2006) was a Canadian football player who played for the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos. He won the Grey Cup with the Stampeders in 1948. Irving previously attended and played football for the University of Alberta Golden Bears and hockey for the McGill University Redmen. He died of Alzheimer's disease in 2006.

Harry Munroe Napier Hetherington Irving (1905 – 1993 in Cape Town), often cited as H. M. N. H. Irving, was a British chemist.

Irving received his PhD in 1930 from Oxford University, the same year he received his Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. Between 1930-1961 Irving was employed as a lecturer and demonstrator in chemistry at Oxford University, and during the 1940s began research into coordination chemistry. In 1953, Irving and his doctoral student Robert Williams described a periodic trend now known as the Irving–Williams Series. Irving was Chair of Inorganic and Structural Chemistry at the University of Leeds between 1961 and 1971, and Chair of Analytical Science at the University of Cape Town between 1979 and 1985.

Irving (band)

Irving is an American indie rock band. It was founded by Alex Church, later of Sea Wolf, Brian Canning and Steven Scott in 1998, after playing together for the first time at an arts festival. Soon after, they added keyboardist Shana Levy and Brent Turner; Levy remained with the group until 2003, when Aaron Burrows joined. Rather than having a frontman, the vocal and songwriting aspects are shared by at least three people. They acquired modest popularity after airplay on MTV2 for the song "Situation" in spring 2006. Members Aaron Burrows, Brian Canning, Steven Scott and Brent Turner formed the band Afternoons along with,Grammy Award winning producer Tom Biller, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Johnson.

Harry (newspaper)

Harry was an underground newspaper founded and edited by Michael Carliner and Tom D'Antoni and published biweekly in Baltimore, Maryland from 1969 to 1972. A total of at least 41 issues were published, with an average circulation of 6,000 to 8,000 copies. P. J. O'Rourke, then a student at Johns Hopkins University, was a regular contributor and one of its editors. The publication was arbitrarily named by a neighbor's 2-year-old son, who was reportedly calling everything "Harry" at the time.

The newspaper published in a 20 page black and white tabloid format, with news in front, followed by cultural features and a community calendar. Harry's slogan, just below its flag, declared its mission: "Serving the Baltimore Underground Community". Many of the staff lived in a Baltimore row house commune called "Harry." There was also an annex called "Harry's Aunt" down the block.

Twenty years after the newspaper stopped publishing, Publisher Thomas V. D'Antoni tried to restart Harry as a monthly publication in 1991. His first issue was expected to be 32 pages long, with eight pages of reprints from the original Harry, including some of O'Rourke's articles.
