Hardee's

Hardee's Food Systems, Inc., is an American fast-food restaurant chain, operating primarily in the Southern and Midwestern United States. The company has evolved through several corporate ownerships since its establishment in 1960 and is now owned and operated by CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carl's Jr. — which has aligned the menus, logos and advertising of the two brands.

In 2012, Nation's Restaurant News ranked Hardee's as the No. 28 foodservice chain by sales in the United States through 2011. Carl's Jr. was ranked at No. 37. Combined sales would rank the two at No. 15. In 2013, QSR listed Hardee's at No. 20 and Carl's Jr. at No. 24; if combined they would have been listed at No. 14.

History

Hardee's founder, Wilber Hardee, opened his first restaurant in Greenville, North Carolina, on September 9, 1960. On the strength of its distinctive burger menu items, including the Huskee, the chain experienced rapid growth by franchising and, to a lesser extent, by acquiring other restaurant chains. The first company store was opened in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in May 1961 by James Carson Gardner and Leonard Rawls on McDonald Street in downtown Rocky Mount. That location has since been razed. According to Wilber Hardee, Gardner and Rawls won a controlling share of the company from him in a game of poker. After realizing that he had lost control over his namesake company, Hardee sold his remaining shares to them as well. The chain was headquartered in Rocky Mount until 2001.

Toyota Care 250

The ToyotaCare 250 is a NASCAR Xfinity Series race that takes place at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. The race was first held during the inaugural season for the Xfinity Series in 1982, as a 150 lap event. The race was removed from the schedule after 1984. It returned to the series starting in 1990 as a 200 lap race. It was expanded to 250 lap distance in 1994, but will be reduced to 105 miles in 2016 as part of an overhauling of the Richmond spring race weekend, including the new Dash4Cash format.

Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. The race is sponsored by QuikTrip, along with the nonprofit organization Folds of Honor, and is run in March as the second race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

This race was originally Atlanta's second race of the season and was run as a late season event for much of its history. From 1987 until 2001, the race was scheduled in November as the final race of the NASCAR season. From 2002 until 2008, the race was moved to October in favor of awarding the final race weekend to Homestead-Miami Speedway and became part of what is now the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2004. In 2009, Atlanta swapped fall race dates with Auto Club Speedway and the race was moved to Labor Day weekend. From 2011 onward, this has been Atlanta's only race date as its spring race was moved to Kentucky Speedway and run later in the year.

In the most recent round of schedule changing, NASCAR elected to move the Labor Day weekend race back to Darlington Raceway, which hosted the Southern 500 on that weekend from 1950 until 2003, and moved Atlanta's lone date back to the early season.
