Harbor House (Nissequogue, New York)

Harbor House, also known as the George C. Case Estate, is a national historic district located at Nissequogue in Suffolk County, New York. The district encompasses an estate with two contributing buildings, one contributing site, and two contributing structures. The estate house is a two story with full attic structure with a gambrel roof designed in 1910. Also on the property are a contributing carriage barn / stable and a well house.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Harbor House of Central Florida

Harbor House of Central Florida is a non-profit state-certified domestic violence shelter near Orlando, in Orange County, Florida. Harbour House operates a 24 hour crisis hotline, and provides counseling and a 110 bed safe shelter for men, women, and children. Its activities include community outreach, legal advocacy services, and community and professional education.

Harbour House receives funding from public and private grants, special events, and individual contributions by supporters. In 2015 the organization includes 45 full-time staff members, 10 part-time staff members, and over a thousand volunteers.

History

Harbor House was founded in 1977 by a group of domestic abuse survivors. They were first established as Spouse Abuse, Inc., a shelter and hotline, and operated unofficially before the formal organization was established by Susan Pins.

In the mid-1980s, the land for the current Harbor House was donated, and the shelter buildings were constructed. In 1990, Harbor House opened an outreach center and office in the Orange County Courthouse to provide additional support services.
