Happy Nation

Happy Nation the debut studio album by Swedish pop group Ace of Base. It was released in Scandinavia on the 24th of December 1992 by Mega Records. It is among the best-selling albums in history, having sold 25 million copies.

Background

Happy Nation was released in early 1993 in Europe, Africa, and Latin America on Festival Records. It reached the number one position in at least 14 countries, and has sold over 23 million copies worldwide.

A second release in Europe, Happy Nation (U.S. Version), came on September 25, 1993, to coincide with the album's release in North America under the title The Sign. The Sign was released in North America on November 23, 1993. Both versions feature revised track listings.

These releases featured new tracks, including "The Sign", and "Hear Me Calling", "Living in Danger", and the Tina Turner cover "Don't Turn Around", along with alternate versions of other tracks. Certain songs included on the original Happy Nation were removed altogether. The re-release climbed to number one in the UK Albums Chart, beating the number 21 peak of the original release.

"Happy Nation" is a song recorded by Swedish group Ace of Base. It was first released in Scandinavia in 1992 and later released twice in the United Kingdom; in October 1993 when it peaked at number 42, and then again twelve months later it reached number 40. "Happy Nation" was remade by Ace of Base for a remix kit in 2008.

Controversy

The song is known to some as somewhat controversial due to its lyrical (actual or heard) content, in conjunction with the past of Ulf Ekberg with a racist group. The chanting choir in the beginning of the song can be heard singing in Latin, but some Israeli people detected Hebrew words instead. Also, words in the chorus itself can be deemed related to Nazi concepts in one way or another. While unproved, these theories and rumors are well known, especially among the affected populations.

Nation (from Latin: natio, "people, tribe, kin, genus, class, flock") is a social concept with no uncontroversial definition, but that is most commonly used to designate larger groups or collectives of people with common characteristics attributed to them—including language, traditions, customs (mores), habits (habitus), and ethnicity. LGBT pride events in Singapore

Singapore's first public LGBT pride festival, IndigNation, took place during the month of August in 2005, with a second annual IndigNation in August 2006. Previous gay celebrations, exemplified by the Nation parties held annually in Singapore since 2001, were private commercial events held for LGBT recreation, but were also socio-political statements of significance in Singapore gay history and milestones in Singapore's human rights record.

History

Before 2001

Prior to 2001, all events held for LGBT people were private affairs not advertised or even made known to the general public. Most were held indoors, especially on Sunday nights at various mainstream discos which were eager to tap the pink dollar on a day when business from their straight patrons was slow. This phenomenon began in the early 1980s when the police started to turn a blind eye to men disco-dancing with each other, but not during the slow numbers, when they were cautioned by the managements of these venues to "behave". This was done to avoid complaints from heterosexual patrons who were initially invariably present.
