Wheel

A wheel is a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axle bearing. The wheel is one of the main components of the wheel and axle which is one of the six simple machines. Wheels, in conjunction with axles, allow heavy objects to be moved easily facilitating movement or transportation while supporting a load, or performing labor in machines. Wheels are also used for other purposes, such as a ship's wheel, steering wheel, potter's wheel and flywheel.

Common examples are found in transport applications. A wheel greatly reduces friction by facilitating motion by rolling together with the use of axles. In order for wheels to rotate, a moment needs to be applied to the wheel about its axis, either by way of gravity, or by the application of another external force or torque.

Etymology

The English word wheel comes from the Old English word hweol, hweogol, from Proto-Germanic *hwehwlan, *hwegwlan, from Proto-Indo-European *k^wek^wlo-, an extended form of the root *k^wel- "to revolve, move around". Cognates within Indo-European include Icelandic hjól "wheel, tyre", Greek κύκλος kúklos, and Sanskrit chakra, the latter both meaning "circle" or "wheel".

The Wheel

The Wheel is an album by singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash. Most of the songs on the album reflected Cash's feelings on embarking on a new relationship after the dissolution of her marriage to Rodney Crowell. Though neither of its two singles, "The Wheel" and "You Won't Let Me In", charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, the album received considerable critical acclaim. A video was produced for the "The Wheel".

Hands On (TV series)

Hands On is the TV programme for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Ireland. The programme airs twice-a-month on Sunday on RTÉ One, Ireland's national public service broadcaster. Hands On first aired on RTÉ in 1996 and is currently producing the twelfth series of the programme. Its predecessor, Sign of the Times, aired on RTÉ from 1988 to 1995.

Hands On is produced by a mixed deaf and hearing team and there are nine presenters working on the programme, who present the programme through Irish Sign Language (ISL), the first language of the deaf community in Ireland. The programme is also subtitled with an English voice-over.

Format

Each series consists of 14 new programmes and 6 "Best Of" programmes. The programme generally consists of deaf news, an animation for deaf children titled Molly & Mr Milk, and three magazine stories of differing themes; information pieces, interviews, topical reports, funny/light entertainment pieces, investigative reporting, sports stories or video diaries (items filmed and presented by Hands On viewers). Series twelve will also include feature length programmes on one topic.

Hands on the Wheel

"Hands on the Wheel" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Schoolboy Q, released on April 3, 2012 as the second single from his second album, Habits & Contradictions (2012). The song, produced by Best Kept Secret, features a guest verse from fellow American rapper ASAP Rocky. The song samples Kid Cudi's hit single "Pursuit of Happiness", as performed live by Lissie.

Background

After announcing his signing to Interscope Records in March 2012, Interscope released "Hands on the Wheel" as a single via iTunes and began promoting the song at Urban and Rhythmic radio formats in North America. The song would become his first to chart on any Billboard charts.
