HammerFall is a Swedish heavy metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was formed in 1993 by ex-Ceremonial Oath guitarist Oscar Dronjak.
HammerFall was formed when guitarist Oscar Dronjak quit Ceremonial Oath and invited Jesper Strömblad (from In Flames) to join him as a drummer in a new musical project he had been contemplating for some time. Dronjak had already composed the song "Steel Meets Steel," which was later included on HammerFall's debut album. Dronjak and Strömblad were later joined by guitarist Niklas Sundin, bassist Johan Larsson, and vocalist Mikael Stanne. When Niklas Sundin and Johan Larsson left HammerFall the following year, Glenn Ljungström (then guitarist of In Flames) and Fredrik Larsson (bassist of the former Swedish death metal band Dispatched), replaced them.
All five members played in other bands at the time. Dronjak and Larsson played in Crystal Age; Strömblad and Ljungström played in In Flames and Stanne sang for Dark Tranquillity. Both of these bands influenced Swedish melodic death metal. HammerFall was relegated to being a side project of them all for several years. Their concerts were limited mostly to a local music contest named Rockslaget. The band had few songs of their own and played mostly covers from bands such as Pretty Maids, Judas Priest and Alice Cooper.
Hammerfight, previously known as Hammerfall, is a 2-dimensional physics-based video game published by Kranx Productions and 1C for Windows, Mac, Linux and PlayStation Portable. The game was part of the third Humble Indie Bundle.Ryan C. Gordon ported the game and the underlying game engine, "Haaf's Game Engine", to Linux and Mac OS X, and released his port and source code under a free software license.
The player is a member of a tribe called the Gaiars, a strong race who have battled with large bugs to survive. When the player's tribe is destroyed, he is taken prisoner and turned into a slave. As the player is discovered to be the last living human Gaiar, he is forced to battle in the arena. In battle, a man recognizes the player as the son of a friend, and together they plot the downfall of the Emperor who ordered the destruction of the Gaiars.
In the physics-based gameplay, the player swings large melee weapons and relies on centripetal force to give the object enough kinetic energy to destroy enemies. The demo release had six main types of weapons - four melee and two ranged.
The Gene Wars universe is a fictional universe developed by science fiction and fantasy author C. J. Cherryh. The universe currently consists of two science fiction novels, Hammerfall (2001) and Forge of Heaven (2004). The books were published by HarperCollins under the company's "Eos" imprint. Hammerfall was nominated for the John W. Campbell Memorial Award in 2002.
The Gene Wars universe contains a human polity in contact with the ondat, an alien race of uncertain shape and incomprehensible ways of thought.
The human polity has been divided against itself in a revolutionary movement called the Movement, which advocated the full exploitation of nanotechnology and gene manipulation, and used those technologies in its fight with the government. As a side effect, one of their technologies infected the ondat, bringing them to war against humanity.
Hammerfall takes place against this background, but it takes quite a while before one discovers the relationship between the larger backdrop and the story of the book.
Heed the war cry for glory
Hear them calling your name
Hold your ground, show no mercy
For freedom in anger, now maim
Another angel is dying - Falling
His entry to heaven denied - Falling
from the skies
Predestined to walk and fend in the
darkness - Fortune
Reveal the gates of hell - Hex,
Immortalized
The fallen, they walk all among us - Angels
Their broken wings will not bear - Angels in disguise
Eternal dark, in torment anguish - Dawning
Bound to stagger this land - Hex,
Immortal
We walk the line, we stand alone eternally
We're crused to live, we cannot die,
Immortalized
Time goes by, now the angels
feed the eternal flame
Stand your ground, crused immortal
