Hamid refers to two different but related Arabic given names, both of which come from the Arabic triconsonantal root of Ḥ-M-D:

  • Ḥamīd (حمید, also spelled Hameed) means “praised” or “praiseworthy”.
  • Ḥāmid (حامد, also spelled Haamid, or Hamed) means “praiser (of God)”.
  • Also, one of the names of God in Islam.
