-abad is a suffix that forms part of many city names in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. It is derived from the Persian word ābād (آباد), meaning "cultivated place" (village, city), and commonly attached to the name of the city's founder or patron. The root of this word is from the Persian word āb (آب) meaning 'Water'. In India, -abads are generally legacies of Persianized Muslim rulers such as the Mughals.

The suffix is most common in Iran, which contains thousands of -abads, most of them small villages. As of 1954, its Markazi Province alone contained 44 Hoseynabads, 31 Aliabads, 23 Hajjiabads, 22 Hasanabads, and so on.

Abadá (Portuguese pronunciation: [abaˈda]) can refer to various items of clothing: a white tunic worn by for prayer by African Muslims, the uniform of port workers in Brazil, the pants worn by capoeristas, or a shirt sold at a carnival or theatrical production to promote the event.

Capoeira pants

Original abadás were white. Capoeira abadás are generally white and sport the Capoeira school's logo (usually on the left leg). However, there are generic abadás that some schools train in, reserving their uniform abadás for demonstrations. In addition, some Capoeira schools allow any exercise pants for training. Several schools stick to white as a symbol of purity, representing the pure martial art of Capoeira. It is also believed that the white color has religious ties, thus making it appropriate for Capoeira demonstrations. Many Capoeiristas believe that Capoeira is religious in nature, and give the highest form of respect to their martial art. Hence, the color white is used for their uniforms.

The Blood+ anime, light novel, and manga series features an extensive cast of characters designed by Chizu Hashii and created by Production I.G and Aniplex. The series is set within fictionalized versions of various real-life cities, including Okinawa, Japan; Hanoi, Vietnam; Yekaterinburg, Russia; Paris, France; London, England; Fayetteville, North Carolina; and New York, New York.

The central character of the series is Saya Otonashi, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl who was adopted into the family of Kai and Riku Miyagusuku a year before the series begins and who cannot remember her past. Her life is dramatically changed when she learns that she is a chiropteran—a vampire-like creature—who was born in 1833, survives by drinking the blood of others or receiving it through blood transfusion, and is the only one who can destroy other chiropterans and her twin sister Diva. Saya and Diva are the "queens", the descendants of a line of supremely powerful chiropterans that are always born as twin females. Aiding Saya in this century-long quest is an organization called the Red Shield, with a man named David assigned to be Saya's primary "handler." With Saya forced to return to her former life, she is reunited with Hagi, her chevalier—a special form of chiropteran created by feeding a human the blood of a queen which causes a powerful bond to form and compels the chevalier to serve and protect his queen at all costs.

Haji (actress)

Haji (born Barbarella Catton; January 24, 1946 – August 9, 2013) was a Canadian-born actress of British and Filipino descent, and a former exotic dancer known for her role in Russ Meyer's 1965 cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. She made significant contributions to her roles by introducing elements of psychedelia and witchcraft as well as writing most of her own dialogue.

Life and career

Born in Quebec, Canada, Haji—a nickname given to her by an uncle—appeared in several Russ Meyer films, including Motorpsycho (1965), Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965), Good Morning and... Goodbye! (1967), and Supervixens (1975). Haji's final role was as 'Moonji' in Killer Drag Queens on Dope (2003).

Haji was reunited with fellow Russ Meyer film stars Kitten Natividad and Raven De La Croix in the 2001 comedy feature film The Double-D Avenger, directed by William Winckler. In it, Haji played evil exotic dancer Hydra Heffer.

Haji was featured as one of the top 1,000 most glamorous women of the 20th century in the book Glamorous Girls of the Century by Steve Sullivan. She was also interviewed in the book Invasion of the B-Girls by Jewel Shepard. Haji lived in Malibu, California.
