Habibpur

Habibpur (Hindi: हबिबपुर) is a census town in Bhagalpur district in the Indian state of Bihar.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Habibpur had a population of 9360. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Habibpur has an average literacy rate of 38%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 46%, and female literacy is 33%. In Habibpur, 20% of the population is under 6 years of age.

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 43 Habibpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (ST) covers Bamangola community development block and Aktail, Baidyapur, Bulbul Chandi, Dhumpur, Habibpur, Jajail, Kanturka and Mangalpur gram panchayats of Habibpur community development block.

Habibpur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 7 Maldaha Uttar (Lok Sabha constituency). It was earlier part of Malda (Lok Sabha constituency).

In the 2011 election, Khagen Murmu of CPI(M) defeated his nearest rival Mohan Tudu of Trinamool Congress.

.# Trinamool Congress did not contest in 2006, but had supported BJP. Swing based on Congress vote percentage in 2006. BJP's negative swing in 2011 also adjusted in the final swing.
