HSM (business)

HSM is an American company globally manufacturing discrete components and integrated solutions for transportation, furniture, bedding and other markets. The closely held, family-owned firm is based in Hickory, North Carolina where it was founded in 1944 by Parks Underdown as the "Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company." In May 2013, Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company announced it was being rebranded as “HSM.”

The company operates 50 plants employing nearly 2,500 workers in 17 states and is ranked as one of North Carolina's largest employers. It also operates a plant in the Guanlan industrial park area of Shenzhen, China, that produces recliner mechanisms.

Overview

In March 2013, President and CEO David Colburn announced the company was restructuring into four business units to support transportation, furniture, bedding, and diversified markets. On May 6, 2013, a rebranding initiative consolidated several brand names and divisions under the trade name: HSM. The name refers to the company’s origins and the adoption of a business model offering “High-value Solutions Manufacturing.” The name has been applied to four business units, which are operating as: HSM Transportation Solutions, HSM Bedding Solutions, HSM Furniture Solutions, and HSM Diversified Solutions covering healthcare, packaging, and government markets.

Business

A business, also known as an enterprise, agency or a firm, is an entity involved in the provision of goods and/or services to consumers. Businesses are prevalent in capitalist economies, where most of them are privately owned and provide goods and services to customers in exchange for other goods, services, or money. Businesses may also be social not-for-profit enterprises or state-owned public enterprises targeted for specific social and economic objectives. A business owned by multiple individuals may be formed as an incorporated company or jointly organised as a partnership. Countries have different laws that may ascribe different rights to the various business entities.

Business can refer to a particular organization or to an entire market sector, e.g. "the music business". Compound forms such as agribusiness represent subsets of the word's broader meaning, which encompasses all activity by suppliers of goods and services. The goal is for sales to be more than expenditures resulting in a profit.

Business is the debut EP from New Jersey, rock band Jet Lag Gemini,. Recorded in Madison, NJ at Northshore Studios when two of the band members were still 15 years old, the EP was released June 6, 2006 on Doghouse Records.

"Business" is a song by American rapper Eminem from his fourth studio album The Eminem Show (2002). "Business" was released as the final single from The Eminem Show in July 2003. The single was not released in the United States.

Composition

"Business" is a hip hop song of four minutes and eleven seconds in length. It sees Eminem comparing himself and Dr. Dre, the song's producer, to fictional crime-fighting duo Batman and Robin, a comparison first explored in the music video for the previous Eminem single "Without Me". The lyrics are backed by a "cartoonish" beat: one of several Dr. Dre productions on The Eminem Show which, according to CultureDose writer Marty Brown, affords Eminem a "perfect sound-scape" to inspire emotions in the listener, calling the beat "a launchpad equally effective for humor or anger". Writing for Pitchfork Media, Ethan P. noted the "cartoonish" production to be similar in style to several of Eminem's early singles, claiming it to be fitting to the Batman and Robin theme on "Business", but noted that "this time he's actually talking about Batman and Robin!!". DX Magazine editor J-23 called this "classic" with Dre beats. Kris Ex On "Business": "Em names himself the gatekeeper of hip-hop and obliquely claims to be the best rapper alive: "The flow's too wet/Nobody close to it/Nobody says it, but everybody knows the shit."

HSM-74

Helicopter Maritime Strike Seven Four (HSM-74), the "Swamp Foxes", is a United States Navy helicopter squadron based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Florida. HSM-74 is attached to Carrier Air Wing Three and deploys aboard cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and aircraft carriers in support of a carrier strike group.

Mission

The squadron employs the MH-60R multi-mission helicopter. Primary missions include Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (SUW), Command, Control, Communications (CCC), Command and Control Warfare (C2W), Mobility (MOB), and Non-Combat Operations (NCO). Secondary missions consist of Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS), and Communications Relay (COMREL).

Transition from HSL-44

HSM-74 was established on 9 June 2011 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, when the squadron was re-designated HSM-74 from their previous designation of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Four Four (HSL-44). The change reflected their transition from employing the SH-60B to the MH-60R, as well a from a detachment-based, expeditionary squadron to its realignment in support of a carrier air wing. As part of this transition, then-HSL-44 relocated to NAS Jacksonville from their previous home of Naval Station Mayport in November 2009.

HSM-72 Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seven-Two, also known as Proud Warriors is a helicopter squadron of the United States Navy based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. The Proud Warriors are a part of Carrier Air Wing Seven and deploy aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75).
