HC Dinamo Minsk

Hockey Club Dinamo-Minsk (Russian: Дина́мо-Минск; Belarusian: Дынама-Мінск, Dynama-Minsk) is an ice hockey team based in Minsk, Belarus. They are members of the Bobrov Division of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Dinamo has qualified for the KHL playoffs (Gagarin Cup) three times: in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2014-15 KHL seasons. The team hasn't won a single round of the Gagarin Cup yet, losing in all three series.

Alexei Kalyuzhny is the current captain of the team, with his alternates being Alexander Kulakov and Jonathan Cheechoo.

History

The origins of the club begin in 1966, where the original Dinamo played 5 seasons in the Soviet Top Ice Hockey League, with its highest finish being 10th place in the 1989/90 season. Dinamo was renamed as Tivali Minsk in 1993 and four times became a champion of the Belarusian Championship in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2000. Tivali was disbanded in 2000. Dinamo was founded in 2003, taking the name of the historic club, and won champion title and Belarus Cup twice.

Handball Club Dinamo-Minsk is a team handball club from Minsk, Belarus. Currently, HC Dinamo-Minsk competes in the Belarus First League of Handball. HC Dinamo-Minsk is a five-time Belarus league champion (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 ), winner of the Baltic League (2009), winner of the Cup of Belarus (2010) and the finalist of the Cup of Belarus (2009).

FC Dinamo-93 Minsk

FC Dinamo-93 Minsk (Belarusian: Дынама-93 Мiнск, Dynama-93 Minsk) was a Belarusian football club based in Minsk. They disbanded in 1998.

History

Dinamo-2 Minsk was founded in 1992 as a reserve team for Dinamo Minsk, replacing Dinamo-d Minsk, which competed in Soviet Reserves Top League before the dissolution of USSR. Dinamo-2 spent 1992 season in Belarusian First League and won the tournament. In order to get promoted, Dinamo-2 separated from its parent and became independent team. They were renamed to FC Belarus Minsk for the 1992–93 season, and finally to FC Dinamo-93 Minsk in 1993.

The team was quite successful: they finished second once (1993–94), and third three times (1992–93, 1994–95 and 1995). They also won Belarusian Cup in 1995 and reached the final again 1997. Due to these results Dinamo-93 were able to play in European Cups (Cup Winners' Cup in 1995–96, UEFA Cup in 1996–97 and Intertoto Cup in 1997).

In 1998, after playing 14 games of the championship and also having one automatic 0–3 loss for missing game in Vitebsk, Dinamo-93 withdrew from the competition due to lack of finances and disbanded.

Minsk

Minsk (Belarusian: Мінск pronounced [mʲinsk]; Russian: Минск, [mʲinsk], Polish: Mińsk) is the capital and largest city of Belarus, situated on the Svislach and Nyamiha rivers. It is the administrative centre of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). As the national capital, Minsk has a special administrative status in Belarus and is the administrative centre of Minsk Region (voblast) and Minsk raion (district). In 2013, it had a population of 2,002,600.

The earliest historical references to Minsk date to the 11th century (1067), when it was noted as a provincial city within the principality of Polotsk. The settlement developed on the rivers. In 1242, Minsk became a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It received town privileges in 1499.

From 1569, it was a capital of the Minsk Voivodship in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was part of a region annexed by the Russian Empire in 1793, as a consequence of the Second Partition of Poland. From 1919 to 1991, after the Russian Revolution, Minsk was the capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union.

Minsk is a doom metal/post-metal band from Peoria, Illinois founded in 2002. Self described as "psychedelic metal", their songs tend to start out as slow and simple, and become heavy and complex towards the end. Their sound draws equally from sludge metal, doom metal, hardcore punk, ambient and noise music, with a highly psychedelic attitude achieved through tribal drum patterns, thick layers of synthesizers and keyboards, and echoing vocals. They are named after the capital of Belarus. The idea of survival through suffering is a recurring theme in the lyrics and musical style. In fact, regarding the origin of their name, their official biography states: "Drawing its nominal inspiration from a remote Belarusian city nestled deep amidst the in-betweens of the East and the West, a city that has been burned to the ground on several occasions only to be rebuilt like a Phoenix rising from its ashes." The sounds and atmospheres they evoke in their songs are complex and psychedelic.
