Guna (woreda)

Guna is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It is part of the Arsi Zone. It was separated from Merti woreda.

Demographics

The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 76,365, of whom 38,481 were men and 37,884 were women; 5,558 or 7.28% of its population were urban dwellers. The majority of the inhabitants, 59.89%, said they were Muslim while 39.99% of the population practised Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity.

Districts of Ethiopia

Districts or woreda (Amharic: ወረዳ^?) (also spelled wereda) are the third-level administrative divisions of Ethiopia. They are composed of a number of wards (kebele) or neighborhood associations, which are the smallest unit of local government in Ethiopia.

Overview

Woredas are typically collected together into zones, which form a region; districts which are not part of a zone are designated Special Districts and function as autonomous entities. Districts are governed by a woreda council whose members are directly elected to represent each kebele in the district. There are about 670 rural woreda and about 100 urban woreda. Terminology varies, with some people considering the urban units to be woreda, while others consider only the rural units to be woreda, referring to the others as urban or city administrations.

Although some districts can be traced back to earliest times—for example the Yem special woreda, the Gera and Gomma woredas which preserve the boundaries of kingdoms that were absorbed into Ethiopia, and the Mam Midrina Lalo Midir woreda of a historic province of Ethiopia (in this case, two of the districts of Menz)—many are of more recent creation. Beginning in 2002, more authority was passed to districts by transferring staff and budgets from the regional governments.

Guṇa

Guṇa (Sanskrit: गुण) depending on the context means 'string, thread or strand', or 'virtue, merit, excellence', or 'quality, peculiarity, attribute, property'.

The concept originated in Samkhya philosophy, but now a key concept in various schools of Hindu philosophy. There are three gunas, according to this worldview, that have always been and continue to be present in all things and beings in the world. These three gunas are called: sattva (goodness, constructive, harmonious), rajas (passion, active, confused), and tamas (darkness, destructive, chaotic). All of these three gunas are present in everyone and everything, it is the proportion that is different, according to Hindu worldview. The interplay of these gunas defines the character of someone or something, of nature and determines the progress of life.

In some contexts, it may mean 'a subdivision, species, kind, quality', or an operational principle or tendency of something or someone. In human behavior studies, Guna means personality, innate nature and psychological attributes of an individual.

Guna (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Guna Vidhan Sabha constituency (Hindi: गुना विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the 230 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state in central India. This constituency is reserved for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled castes since 2008, following the delimitation of the Legislative Assembly constituencies. It came into existence in 1951, as one of the 79 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of the erstwhile Madhya Bharat state.

Guna (constituency number 29) is one of the 4 Vidhan Sabha constituencies located in Guna district. This constituency presently covers parts of Guna and Aron tehsils of the district.

Guna is part of Guna Lok Sabha constituency along with seven other Vidhan Sabha segments, namely, Bamori in this district, Shivpuri, Pichhore and Kolaras in Shivpuri district and Ashok Nagar, Chanderi and Mungaoli in Ashoknagar district.
