GunZ 2

GunZ 2 aka GunZ: The Second Duel is an online third-person shooting game created by South Korean-based MAIET Entertainment. It is the sequel to 2003's GunZ: The Duel. Gunz 2 began its first closed beta test in Korea in early 2011, however it has yet to be released. Gunz 2 is currently greenlit on Steam via its Greenlight program, and has entered into beta testing on February 17, 2014 via Steam Greenlight. The Steam version of Gunz 2 is available for international players, mainly in North America. The European version of Gunz 2 was hosted during its open beta phase by ProSiebenSat.1 Media. On 15 December 2014 the licensing agreement between MAIET Entertainment and Prosieben ended where MAIET opened a Steam server for the European region.

On September 4, 2015, a news post on Steam announced that the company MAIET Entertainment is no longer operational. The post also states that all rights for the game were taken over by the company MattietSoft Inc. and will take care of any further development.

Gunzo (群像) is a Japanese monthly literary magazine published in Japan.

History and profile

Gunzo was first published in October 1946 as junbungaku (純文学, lit. "pure literature") oriented publication. The magazine is published by Kodansha.

The past contributors for the magazine include: Kenzaburō Ōe, Haruki Murakami and Yoriko Shono. Along with Shinchō, Bungakukai, Subaru and Bungei magazines, Gunzo is among the leading thick literary magazines in Japan.

Gunzo is also aimed at discovering new talent, both among writers and critics. It runs a contest for new writers and provides informational support for the Noma Prize. It had a policy of running stories anonymously to encourage people not to read stories for the name of the author.

GunZ: The Duel

GunZ: The Duel (Korean: 건즈 온라인), also known simply as GunZ, was an online third-person shooting game, created by South Korean-based MAIET Entertainment and managed on an international gaming portal by ijji games until management shifted to the Aeria Games gaming portal in March 2012.

In the first week of May 2013 (1st on the forums 5th on the homepage), Aeria announced that the game would be cancelled on May 31, and that the forums would be deleted June 31. They would only refund AP purchased during those final 4 weeks. AP purchased in prior months/years used to build characters would not be refunded to players.

This closure happened 2 months following the announcement that GunZ 2 would be released for free in English on Steam.

It was free to play, with a microtransaction business model for purchasing premium in-game items. The game allowed players to perform exaggerated, gravity-defying action moves, including wall running, stunning, tumbling, and blocking bullets with swords, in the style of action movies and anime.
