Delonix regia

Delonix regia is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae, subfamily Caesalpinioideae. It is noted for its fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of flowers. In many tropical parts of the world it is grown as an ornamental tree and in English it is given the name Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant. It is also one of several trees known as Flame tree.

This species was previously placed in the genus Poinciana, named for Phillippe de Longvilliers de Poincy, the 17th century governor of Saint Christophe (Saint Kitts). It is a non nodulating legume.

Description

The tree's vivid red/vermilion/orange/yellow flowers and bright green foliage make it an exceptionally striking sight.

Delonix Regia is found in Madagascar's dry deciduous forests. In the wild it is endangered, but it is widely cultivated elsewhere. In addition to its ornamental value, it is also a useful shade tree in tropical conditions, because it usually grows to a modest height (mostly 5 meters, but it can reach an maximum height of 12 meters) but spreads widely, and its dense foliage provides full shade. In areas with a marked dry season, it sheds its leaves during the drought, but in other areas it is virtually evergreen. Flowers appear in corymbs along and at the ends of branches. Pods are green and flaccid when young and turn dark-brown and woody.

Gulmohar (2009 film)

Gulmohar is a Marathi film released on 27 February 2009. The movie was produced by Uttam Jhavar and directed by Gajendra Ahire. The movie title is a metaphor: a married woman (like a Gulmohar tree) withstands treacherous conditions of her marriage--yet survives to spread its blossom of beauty and goodness.

Synopsis

Deven, an achiever and competent young man is married to Vidya who has loved him for whatever he was and whatever he wants to be.

Yet the pace and anxiety of the city life with its unending demands takes a toll on their relationship. Deven's attitude to have everything his way doesn't help and puts their relationship under severe strain. Even through all this, Vidya continues to maintain her composure and strides through to a successful career while continuing to give her wholehearted love and care to her husband.

Vidya finds help in a young man Bhagwan. But her friendship with Bhagwan is misunderstood and suspected for worse by Deven. The uneasiness haunts Vidya as she is caught between deciding to either accept her fate, or challenge the norms and redefine her destiny.
