The Gulf of Bomba is a body of water in the Mediterranean Sea on the northern coast of Libya. It lies about forty miles east of Derne or Derna at 32 degrees 38 minutes North Latitude, 23 degrees 07 minutes East Longitude.

It was here the American ship Argus April 16, 1805 commanded by Captain Hull brought food and supplies to Captain William Eaton and allies who had traveled more than 500 miles from Egypt to attack the state of Tripoli, which was holding about three hundred Americans as hostages and slaves from the ship Philadelphia, which ran aground October 1803. These supplies enabled Eaton and eight U.S. Marines and allies mainly Arab to win the Battle of Derne begun April 27 and control the largest city in eastern Tripoli (more or less modern Libya).
