Mel is a 1998 film directed by Joey Travolta, starring Ernest Borgnine, Julie Hagerty and Greg Evigan.

Plot summary

Bonnie and Peter are working on their marriage while dealing with a difficult teen-aged son. Her father takes the boys (Roger and Travis) in for the summer at his farm. It is apparent early on that he's fighting with developers that want his land while he wants to preserve his family's legacy. The developers had taken over a prior farm and turned it into an amusement park, something that Grandpa does not approve of. The boys explore as children will and find their grandfather is harboring a large turtle-like creature called Mel. Mel is a legend of local Swanson Lake and is known as Swannie to the general populace (shades of 'Nessie'). The boys are helped to adjust to their small town 'exile' by getting to know him. While going around with a girl (Susie) one day, Roger (the elder boy) accidentally causes an explosion on the developer's property with his grandfather's tractor. When the sheriff comes by to arrest Grandpa, Roger tells them he was the one who caused the wreck but they still put Grandpa in jail. Bonnie and Peter (the boys' parents) come to stay at the farm when Grandpa is jailed. The boys end up staging a break out for Mel from the amusement park and with the help of Susie and her brother try to get him back to the lake, setting a tiger loose and creating mayhem in the process.

Groupie

The term groupie is derived from group, in reference to a musical group, but the word is also used in a more general sense, especially in casual conversation, to mean a particular kind of female fan assumed to be more interested in relationships with rockstars than in their music. A groupie is generally considered a devoted female fan of a band or musical performer. The term originates from the female attaching herself to a band. A groupie is considered more intense about her adored celebrities than a fan and tends to follow them from place to place. A groupie will attempt to have a connection with the band and may seek intimate contact. Obsessive groupies will almost certainly involve themselves sexually with any members of the band including the roadies. Further, there are groupies of sports teams and many other types of celebrities.

Origin in music

The word groupie originated around 1965 to describe teen-aged girls or young women who sought brief liaisons with musicians. The phenomenon itself was much older; Mary McCarthy had earlier described it in her novel The Company She Keeps (1942). Some sources have attributed the coining of the word to the Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman during the group's 1965 Australian tour; but Wyman said he and his bandmates used other "code words" for women on tour.

DS2

DS2 (abbreviation of Dirty Sprite 2) is the third studio album by American hip hop recording artist Future. The album was released on July 17, 2015 by A1, Freebandz and Epic Records. The album serves as the sequel from his breakout mixtape Dirty Sprite (2011). The album was supported by four singles "Fuck Up Some Commas", "Real Sisters", "Blow a Bag" and "Where Ya At" featuring Drake.

Upon its release, DS2 received generally positive reviews from critics and was ranked as one of the best albums of 2015 by several publications. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and sold 126,000 copies in its first week. The album has since been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). As of February 2016, the album has sold 344,000 in the United States.

Background

On July 10, 2015, Future posted the artwork and announced his new album, titled DS2, would be released on July 17, 2015. The tracklist of the album was released on July 15, 2015. In an interview with Power 105.1, he explained the official album title was abbreviated to DS2 in order to avoid copyright infringement from Sprite.

Groupies (album)

Groupies (Chinese: 吉他手, translit. Guitarist) is Cheer Chen's third studio album, released by Rock Records in 2002. It has been listed in the Top 200 Mandarin Albums by the Taiwanese Musician Institute (中華音樂人交流協會).
