Groupe µ

Groupe µ (French for "Group Mu") is the collective pseudonym under which a group of Belgian 20th-century semioticians wrote a series of books, presenting an exposition of modern semiotics.

Research and work

This interdisciplinary group works out of the Center of Poetic Studies at the University of Liège, in Belgium, and was formed in 1967. Members have included Francis Édeline, Jean-Marie Klinkenberg, Jacques Dubois, Francis Pire, Hadelin Trinon and Philippe Minguet, with several other associate members. Beyond their personal research in biochemistry, cultural sociology, aesthetics, or semiotics, the authors have published collectively various books as well as more than sixty papers in such journals as Communications, Poétique, Versus, Visio, Degrés, Cahiers internationaux de symbolisme, Communication et langage, Era, Revue d'esthétique, Le Français moderne, Texte, Technê, Protée, RS/SI, Nouveaux actes sémiotiques, Les Documents de travail d'Urbino, etc. or in collected papers.

Group (military aviation unit)

A group is a military aviation unit, a component of military organization and a military formation. Usage of the terms group and wing differ from one country to another, as well as different branches of a defence force, in some cases. Groups therefore vary considerably in size.

In many air services, a group is made up of two to four squadrons and is usually commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel, Commander or an officer of equivalent rank. In France and Germany, the precursors of the Armée de l'Air and Luftwaffe formed groupes and Gruppen during the early stages of World War I. The groups of the Armée de l'Air usually comprise two escadrons, but sometimes only one, or as many as four. Three German Staffeln (similar to the English language concept of "squadrons") make up a Gruppe.

In the United States Air Force (USAF) a group may consist of two or more squadrons. Prior to 1991, it was not unusual for a USAF support group to have no subordinate squadrons, but merely be a larger unit than a squadron. In such cases the group would not have a headquarters. Similarly, in the British Fleet Air Arm and some other naval air services, a group usually consists of three squadrons. In the United States Marine Corps, a group consists of at least two squadrons. Two or more groups form a wing.

Group of 184

The Group of 184 is a group of Haitian individuals and organizations in a variety of sectors, ranging from business and the economy to media and education, who are united in opposition to Jean-Bertrand Aristide and his Fanmi Lavalas party. The name springs from the number of organizations in this group, and is frequently shortened to G184. It was created with the specific intent to oppose the government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide in Haiti. It is led by André Apaid, a Haitian businessman.

Origins

The Washington, D.C. organization Haiti Democracy Project (HDP) is a nonprofit thinktank created by Haitian-Americans to create "more proactive and effective U.S. policy toward Haiti." It views the government of Aristide as corrupt and ineffective. This view has resulted in allegations that the HDP created G184, which have been refuted by the HDP director, James R. Morrell.

It has been alleged repeatedly that G184 was developed by the American International Republican Institute to engineer an anti-Aristide coup.
