Greg James

Gregory James Alan Milward (born 17 December 1985), commonly known as Greg James, is a British Radio DJ and TV presenter, most famous for hosting the drivetime show (Monday-Friday, 16:00-19:00) on BBC Radio 1.

Early life

James was born to Alan and Rosemary Milward, in Lewisham, South East London. His parents were both teachers; Alan a headteacher, and Rosemary a special needs teacher. He has one sister, Catherine. As a baby, he received three life-saving blood Transfusions and was under an incubator for a week.

James used to play cricket for Hertfordshire Under-18s.

He first broadcast on Hospital Radio aged 14, however he later discovered that the transmitter was broken and none of his shows actually went out.

Education

James is an alumnus of The Bishop's Stortford High School, where he was deputy head boy.

He studied drama at the University of East Anglia in Norwich and achieved a 2:1.

Radio

While at university, he presented several shows on the students' union radio station Livewire 1350AM, becoming the station manager in 2006. He later said that being station manager was a job he did not enjoy. He also presented several breakfast shows on Future Radio in Norwich and also on Pulse Rated in Salhouse before he got his break at BBC Radio 1. He won 'Best Male Presenter' at the Student Radio Awards 2005. During university holidays he presented stints on Galaxy North East.

Greg James (tattoo artist)

Greg James is a well-known tattoo artist who is considered "one of America's finest." Greg's tattoo designs and original artwork have appeared in magazines, books, documentaries, and at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Career

At the age of fourteen, Greg began drawing flash for his brother, Tennessee Dave, and eventually apprenticed with him in 1976. From single-needle black-and-gray work to classic Americana tattoos and ultimately the large, custom Japanese artwork for which he has become famous, Greg tattooed continuously in Los Angeles (on Main Street in downtown L.A. and also the Pike, in Long Beach) for nine years as he continued to hone his craft.

Sunset Strip

"I wanted to do superlative work. So, I made a choice. I would either quit tattooing or try to get in with Cliff Raven at Sunset Strip Tattoo. Cliff hired me. That's the beginning of the story."

In 1985, Greg joined Sunset Strip Tattoo in Hollywood. Originally opened by Lyle Tuttle in the 1960s, the shop was then owned by Cliff Raven and subsequently Robert Benedetti, pioneers and innovators in the Japanese style of tattooing. For over twenty-five years, Greg played a large part in building the stature of the legendary studio, becoming "the real star at Sunset … the tattoo artist's tattooer."

Greg James (judge)

Gregory Reginald "Greg" James AM QC (born 15 September 1944) is a former Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He is one of the youngest Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) ever appointed in New South Wales, appointed in 1982. He was one of several counsel involved in the Bathurst Gaol Riots of 1970, as well as Lead Counsel for the Bandidos Motorcycle Club during the Milperra Massacre (one of the largest single trials in Australian history).

He was a founding member of Barristers Services Co-operative Limited, which founded Frederick Jordan Chambers, the largest single group of barristers in New South Wales in 1972.

He was appointed as a part-time Commissioner for the New South Wales Law Reform Commission from 1985 to 1989 and again since 1999. He was appointed Counsel for Veterans during the Royal Commission into British nuclear tests in Australia from 1984-1985. In 1988 he was appointed as an Associate Judge of the District Court of New South Wales, serving in this role until 1990.
