Greg Clark

Gregory David Clark (born 28 August 1967) is the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government and a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tunbridge Wells since 2005. Between 15 July 2014 and 11 May 2015, he held the post of Minister for Universities, Science and Cities.

Clark was previously Financial Secretary to the Treasury, the minister responsible for cities policy, and Minister of State in the Department for Communities and Local Government. He is described as an "economically liberal Conservative with a social conscience".

Early life

Greg Clark was born in Middlesbrough and attended the local South Bank St Peter's Roman Catholic School. His father and grandfather were milkmen running the family business, John Clark and Sons, while his mother worked at Sainsbury's.

Clark read Economics at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He joined the Social Democratic Party, whilst at Cambridge, and was an executive member of its student wing, Social Democrat Youth and Students (SDYS). He then studied at the London School of Economics, where he was awarded his PhD in 1992 with a thesis entitled, The effectiveness of incentive payment systems : an empirical test of individualism as a boundary condition.

Greg Clark (tight end)

Greg Clark (born April 7, 1972 in Centerville, Utah, USA), is a former professional American football player who was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 3rd round of the 1997 NFL Draft.

Career

A 6'5", 255-lb. tight end from Stanford University, Clark played in 5 National Football League seasons and his entire career with the 49ers from 1997 to 2001. He was widely recognized as one of the premier blocking tight ends in the NFL. Injuries forced him into early retirement. Clark was recruited to Stanford University as a receiving tight end by Bill Walsh after being named a consensus First Team All-American from Ricks College. While at Stanford Clark credits much of his development as a blocker to his coach Pat Morris. He received both athletic and academic honors while in college. He finished his professional career with 92 receptions, 909 yards receiving, and 4 touchdowns during the regular season. In addition, he caught two touch downs in the 1998-99 playoff game against Green Bay prior to Terrell Owens last second catch from Steve Young to defeat the Packers. Clark was named to the 1999 USA Today All-Joe Team.

Greg Clark (urbanist)

Greg Clark (born 13 April 1962) is an urbanist, chairman, and global advisor on cities and investment. Clark has advised more than 100 cities and a wide array of bodies including the OECD, Brookings Institution, the World Bank and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Clark maintains roles as a contributor to leadership in London and other UK Cities. He is a member of the London LEP Board chaired by Boris Johnson, and is Chairman of the London Stansted Cambridge Consortium. He is a member of the Lead Expert Group of the UK Future of Cities Foresight Project and the UK Ministerial Smart Cities Forum. He is also a member of the Crossrail 2 Growth Commission and the West Anglia Task Force appointed by London Mayor Boris Johnson and UK Chancellor Rt Hon George Osborne MP.

Early life and education

Greg Clark was born in Wimbledon, London on 13 April 1962 and was educated at Wimbledon College. Between 1981 and 1982 Clark spent time volunteering in Mexico City and New York, which was to ignite his interest in the world’s biggest cities. He went on to Cambridge University, where he read Education and Social and Political Science and was JCR President. He joined the Local Economy Policy Unit (at London South Bank University) from 1988 to 1991 as a research fellow in London economic development.

Clark was born Gregory Klondike Clark on March 5, 1965 in Los Angeles, California.

Career

Clark was drafted in the twelfth round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears and spent his first season with the team. The next two seasons he spent with the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Rams. He split the 1991 NFL season between the San Diego Chargers and the Green Bay Packers before spending his final season with the Seattle Seahawks.

He played at the collegiate level at Arizona State University.

Gregory Clark (born 19 September 1957 in Bellshill, Scotland) is an economic historian at the University of California, Davis.

Biography

Clark, whose grandfathers were migrants to Scotland from Ireland, was born in Bellshill, Scotland. He attended Holy Cross High School in Hamilton. In 1974 he and a fellow pupil Paul Fitzpatrick won the Scottish Daily Express, schools debating competition. After school he earned his B.A. in economics and philosophy at King's College, Cambridge in 1979 and his PhD at Harvard in 1985. He has also taught as an Assistant Professor at Stanford and the University of Michigan.

Clark is now a professor of economics, and was (until 2013) department chair, at the University of California, Davis. His areas of research are long term economic growth, the wealth of nations, and the economic history of England and India.

Gregory Clark (rhetorician)

Gregory Clark (born 1950 in Provo, Utah) is an American scholar and teacher working in rhetorical studies and American cultural criticism. His project is both theoretical and critical, developing concepts of how influence works that he then uses to study capacities for influence inherent in American cultural practices.

His theoretical project centers on an ongoing exploration of rhetorical aesthetics: ways that rhetoric works through aesthetic means and ways that aesthetic encounters do rhetorical work. Clark's primary resource for this work is the work of Kenneth Burke. His critical project has examined early American literature and oratory, American landscapes, and now is focusing on American music in order to trace ways the experiences they provide shape American identity.

Clark is Professor of English at Brigham Young University where he has led the American Studies and University Writing programs and chaired the English Department.
