Green tree python

Morelia viridis, commonly known as the green tree python, or as it is known in the herpetoculture hobby, chondro (due to its former classification in the genus Chondropython) is a species of python found in New Guinea, islands in Indonesia, and Cape York Peninsula in Australia.

Description

The green tree python is characterized by a relatively slim body. The relatively long tail accounts for about 14% of the total length. The head is large and clearly defined from the neck. The snout is large and angular. The body is triangular in cross section with a visible spine. The species usually reaches a total length of 150–180 cm (4.9-5.9 ft), but large females may reach 200 cm (6.6 ft). The size also varies depending on the region of origin. The weight is highly dependent upon the nutritional status of the animal. Males can weigh about 1100-1400 g (2.4-3.1 lb), females up to 1,600 g (3.5 lb), although wild specimens are typically much lighter than this. Especially large specimens up to 2,200 g (4.9 lb) are invariably females, which like most snakes are slightly larger and heavier than males.

Green Tree, Pennsylvania

Green Tree is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, and a suburb of Pittsburgh. The population was 4,432 at the 2010 census.

The town is the hometown of U.S. Congressman and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul and Heroes star Zachary Quinto, both of whom were born in nearby Pittsburgh. Green Tree is connected to Pittsburgh via the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

History

Settled in 1793, the area stayed rural until the late 1800s, with paintings of the time showing farmland and a vineyard. The community took its name from the local Green Tree Hotel. Rook Station on the Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal Railway opened in 1904 which heralded an industrialisation of the area and the opening of a railroad yard and roundhouse.

Green Tree is located at 40°24′54″N 80°2′59″W / 40.41500°N 80.04972°W / 40.41500; -80.04972 (40.414969, -80.049800).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.4 km²), all of it land.
