Green room

In show business, the green room is the space in a theatre or similar venue that functions as a waiting room and lounge for performers before and after a performance, and during the show when they are not engaged on stage.

The origin of the term is often ascribed to such rooms historically being painted green. The modern "green room" is usually not green at all.

Source of the term

The specific origin of the term is lost to history, which has led to many imaginative theories and claims. One story is that London's Blackfriars Theatre (1599) included a room behind the scenes, which happened to be painted green; here the actors waited to go on stage. It was called "the green room". Some English theatres contained several green rooms, each ranked according to the status and the salary of the actor: one could be fined for using a green room above one's station.

Green Room (film)

Green Room is a 2015 American crime horror thriller film written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier. The film stars Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Patrick Stewart, Alia Shawkat, and Callum Turner. Filming began in October 2014 in Portland, Oregon. It was screened in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

The film is scheduled to be released in a limited release on April 15, 2016 before opening in wide on April 29, 2016, by A24 Films.

Plot

A murder occurs during a punk band's concert, leaving the band stuck in the venue and turning their night of rocking and rolling into a night of survival.

On May 22, 2014, it was announced that Broad Green Pictures would finance and produce the crime thriller film directed and written by Jeremy Saulnier, with Film Science. Anish Savjani, Neil Kopp and Victor Moyers would produce the film. On October 16, Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots joined the lead cast of the film along with some others include Alia Shawkat, Callum Turner, Joe Cole, Macon Blair and Mark Webber. On October 21, Patrick Stewart was added to the cast to play Darcy Banker, the leader of a violent white supremacist group, while other cast includes Kai Lennox, Eric Edelstein and Taylor Tunes.
