Gordon MacDonald (American football)

Gordon Addison MacDonald, Sr. was an American football and basketball player and coach in the United States. He served as the head football coach at Alma College from 1936 to 1943, compiling a record of 33–22–5. MacDonald played football and basketball at Alma, from which he graduated in 1926. In 1929, he married Eleanor Musselman.

Coaching career

MacDonald was the head college football coach for the Alma Scots located in Alma, Michigan. He held that position for eight seasons, from 1936 until 1943. His coaching record at Alma was 33 wins, 22 losses and 5 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2010 season, this ranks him sixth at Alma in total wins and thirteenth at the school in winning percentage (.592).

He died in Colorado on August 29, 1950 in a hospital after a "long illness".

Gordon MacDonald (Scottish politician)

Gordon MacDonald (born 2 January 1960) is a Scottish politician, currently the Scottish National Party MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands.

He was born in Glasgow and educated at Cumbernauld High School, the Central College of Commerce and the Glasgow College of Technology.

MacDonald contested the seat of Edinburgh Pentlands in the Scottish Parliament general election, 2011, and defeated the Conservative incumbent David McLetchie by a margin of 1,758 votes. Before being elected as a MSP he had worked as a management accountant for Lothian Buses from 1989 to 2011.
