Good Life (Kanye West song)

"Good Life" is a song by American hip-hop artist Kanye West. It was released on October 2, 2007 as the third single for his third studio album Graduation. The song was produced by West and DJ Toomp and contains a sample of the keyboard outro to "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" as performed by Michael Jackson. "Good Life" also has additional drum programming and additional production by Timbaland and Mike Dean, respectively. The track features R&B singer and rapper T-Pain as well as background vocals provided by John Legend and Ne-Yo. "Good Life" managed to enter charts prior to actually being released as a single and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song at the 50th Grammy Awards. The single has since sold over two million copies in the United States and has been certified double platinum.

Chart performance

"Good Life" debuted at number sixty-three on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs during the chart week of September 22, 2007, where it eventually peaked at number three, becoming West's second top ten single from Graduation on the chart. For the chart week of September 29, 2007, "Good Life" was the "Hot Shot Debut" of the week on the Billboard Hot 100, as it entered at number fourteen due to strong digital downloads. The song climbed to the seventh position, becoming West's second consecutive top ten Hot 100 single from Graduation as well as T-Pain's sixth top ten single. "Good Life" debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 at number thirty-nine and has peaked at number twenty-three. The single generated a strong reaction from the MuchMusic Countdown, where it reached number-one. "Good Life" was able to enter at number thirty-three on the UK Singles Chart before it was officially released in the UK until November 5, 2007. Upon its release, the single was able to rise and peak at the twenty-third position on the chart.

"Good Life" is a song by American electronic music group Inner City, featuring vocals by Paris Grey. The song was written and produced by Kevin Saunderson. It is often remembered for being played at nightclubs and on radio stations

It reached number 4 in the United Kingdom in January 1989, and was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry for sales exceeding 200,000 copies. In 1999 the song was rerecorded and remixed by producer Tommy Onyx and a Spanish language version was also released. The 1999 version hit number 10.

"The Good Life" is a song and the second single from Three Days Grace's 2009 album Life Starts Now. It was released for radio airplay on February 9, 2010. It charted at #85 on the Canadian Hot 100 before becoming a single. The song also was featured on ESPN's Winter X Games XIV, and was used during the Professional Motocross Freestyle show Nuclear Cowboyz. "The Good Life" was the featured song for the 2010 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, and also during the 2010 NFL Draft. The song was also performed during a concert of Three Days Grace along series of concerts during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver on February 15, 2010. The song hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and Rock Songs chart and #4 on the Alternative Songs chart matching "Break". This would be the last Three Days Grace song to hit the Top 10 on the Alternative Songs chart.

The band shot the video with director Michael Maxxis on March 23, 2010. The video was released on 28 April 2010. The video consists of the band performing in a garage, with Adam Gontier wearing a Citizen Cope outfit, with clips of people performing activities, both recreational and with violent overtones. The video ends with a man kissing his wife and leaving for work. In contrast to the clean and professionally shot look of previous music video for "Break", this video is filmed with a handheld camera in a messy, real world environment and makes heavy use of video editing effects and colour grading to look rough and visually vibrant.

The song was written by group members Ryan Tedder, Brent Kutzle, and Eddie Fisher along with group associate Noel Zancanella. It was produced by Tedder, with co-production by Kutzle and Zancanella.

The song was released on November 19, 2010 as the album's third single in the United States, and as its overall fourth single. Its popularity was increased by its use in various films, television series and advertisements. The single was a commercial success, peaking at number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and eventually being certified multi-platinum, as well as reaching the top twenty of other music charts across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The song has sold over 3 million copies in the US as of January 2014.

Critical reception of "Good Life" was generally positive. This song is unique in that the band recorded various radio versions of this song for different cities and states. The line changed in the lyrics is "my friends in [city/state] they don't know, where I've been."
