"Gone Away" is a song by American rock band The Offspring. It is the seventh track on their fourth studio album Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) and was released as the second single from the album. The song also appears as the sixth track on their Greatest Hits (2005). The song was written by lead singer Dexter Holland after he lost his girlfriend in a tragic car accident.
The song peaked at #1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, becoming their only #1 song on this chart, while reaching #4 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. Through 2009, The Offspring have played "Gone Away" with Dexter Holland performing on piano while live throughout Europe and in the United States.
Two of the tracks from this single ("D.U.I." and "Hey Joe") will appear on the band's 2010 Japan only compilation album Happy Hour!.

The footage for the music video, shot in grainy quality, shows the band playing in a dark, and apparently abandoned slaughterhouse. Dexter Holland, for most of the video, sings to a shining lightbulb, presumably representative of the soul of the lost person. He is the only band member to interact with this bulb, though other lightbulbs are shown in each band member's respective rooms. Dexter also sings into a suspended microphone which is also used in the video; it swings back and forth as the video fades to black. It was produced by Dave Jerden.
The music video appears as an extra on the Complete Music Video Collection DVD, released in 2005. It also appears in the 1999 long-out of print film Americana. The DVD also contains a storyboard version of the video (with the storyboard playing over top the music video.)
The song was made available as downloadable content in the Rock Band series on October 7 2008. It appeared in the first Offspring pack along with "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" and "Self Esteem."

His music combines Middle Eastern melodies with western culture. He started his musical career in 2001–2002, and has released two albums, Massari in 2005 and Forever Massari in 2009. He has had a number of hit singles in Canada, his home country of Lebanon, Europe, the Middle East and internationally.
Born in Beirut, his family relocated to Montreal, Quebec when he was just 10 years old. At the age of 13, he and his younger brothers moved to Ottawa, Ontario, where he attended Hillcrest High School.
He started his musical career in 2001-2002 adopting the stage name Massari, which in Lebanese Arabic, Massari (مصاري maṣāri ) means "money". The chosen name is also reminiscent of his birth name Sari. His cultural and social upbringing shaped his musical style very early in his music career. He released his first song "Spitfire" (2002) which was aired on Ottawa radio stations. Since then, Massari has been steadily writing and developing his sound.
Massari is the self-titled debut album by Lebanese/Canadian R&B artist Massari released on May 31, 2005 under the label CP Records. It may be a family name as in:
Maybe in another life
I could find you there
Pulled away before your time
I can't deal it's so unfair
And it feels
And it feels like
Heaven's so far away
And it feels
Yeah it feels like
The world has grown cold
Now that you've gone away
Leaving flowers on your grave
Show that I still care
But black roses and Hail Mary's
Can't bring back what's taken from me
I reach to the sky
And call out your name And if I could trade
I would
And it feels
And it feels like
Heaven's so far away
And it stings
Yeah it stings now
The world is so cold Now that you've gone away
