Goldilocks and the Three Bears

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and the older "The Story of the Three Bears" are two variations of an old fairy tale. The original tale tells of an ugly, old woman who enters the forest home of three bachelor bears whilst they are away. She sits in their chairs, eats some of their porridge, and falls asleep in one of their beds. When the bears return and discover her, she starts up, jumps from the window, and is never seen again. The other major version brings Goldilocks to the tale (replacing the old woman), and an even later version retained Goldilocks, but has the three bachelor bears transformed into Papa, Mama, and Baby Bear.

What was originally a fearsome oral tale became a cosy family story with only a hint of menace. The story has elicited various interpretations and has been adapted to film, opera, and other media. "The Story of the Three Bears" is one of the most popular fairy tales in the English language.

Main characters

Shrek

Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers, singing voice provided by Michael Gough) is the lead character in of all of the films. He prides himself on being a big, green, terrifying ogre and is bad tempered and irritable. He begins the series as an unsociable hermit until he meets his soon-to-be best friend, Donkey. In a deal with Lord Farquaad, he and Donkey embark on a quest to save Princess Fiona from the castle in which she was confined. Despite their differences, Shrek and Fiona fall in love, marry at the end of the first film, and have three ogre babies in the third film. Chris Farley was originally set to play Shrek, but he died before he could complete film (he finished 80-90% of the film or according to his brother Tom, 95%).

In Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space, a woman mistakes The Missing Link as Shrek.

Donkey

Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) is a miniature talking donkey. He is Shrek's annoying but good-hearted best friend, Dragon's husband and father of the Dronkeys.

Goldilocks (film)

Goldilocks is a half-hour musical animated film, the audio tracks for which were recorded in the summer of 1969, produced strictly for television in 1970 by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (known for their work on The Pink Panther, of which the animation style is strongly reminiscent) and produced with the assistance of Mirisch-Geoffrey Productions.

Following in the footsteps of other groundbreaking children's shows of the period such as Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and Sesame Street the show presented a thinly veiled attempt to indoctrinate children on the virtues of equality and acceptance along with other modern values.

Plot

One summer day, Bing Crosby, his wife Kathryn and their two youngest children Mary Frances and Nathaniel are camping out on a fishing trip. Bing and the children have returned to camp from the lake with their day's catch.

Upon showing their prizes to Kathryn, she recoils in disgust, saying `Them's that does the catch, does the cleanin'. So Bing and the kids return to the lake, pull up a comfortable log upon which to sit and begin the chore. After a fashion, Mary tells her father that, apart from the tall tales – this is the only part about fishing she doesn't like. Nathanial pipes up that he's bored, to which his father reminds him that before modern conveniences, people used to entertain one another by storytelling, volunteering the first example.
