"God Is a DJ" is the second single in North America and third international single by American pop singer Pink from her third album, Try This (2003). It is about letting go, loving life and living it to the fullest. It features the metaphorical phrase "If God is a DJ/Life is a dance floor/Love is a rhythm/You are the music". It peaked at number six in the Dutch Top 40 and number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. The song appears on the soundtrack of the 2004 film Mean Girls.
AllMusic highlighted the song and added that "the echoes of Blur's "Pressure on Julian" on "God Is a DJ" are surely coincidental." David Browne wasn't positive: "we could have done without the dreadful dance-rock cheeseball God Is a DJ."Rolling Stone wasn't either: "rehashes familiar (Trouble's) themes in "God Is a DJ": "I've been the girl, middle finger in the air." Tell us something we don't know, Pink." Sal Cinquemani was positive: "The shoulda-been first single, "God Is A DJ," is filled with the kind of life-affirming dancefloor metaphors that helped send Madge's "Vogue," "Music" and even Pink's own "Get The Party Started" straight up the charts: "If God is a DJ/If life is a dancefloor/Love is a rhythm/You are the music." Clem Bastow panned the song by noting that "God Is a DJ" is an attempt, unsuccessfully, to recapture some of "P!nk's early-career spunk."
"God Is a DJ" is a song by British group Faithless. It was released in August 1998 as the lead single from their album, Sunday 8PM. The single reached number six in the United Kingdom and also reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for one week in September 1998.
The song was written by Maxi Jazz, Rollo, Sister Bliss and Jamie Catto. Faithless won a BRIT Award for Best British Act in 1999 for their work on the song and other tracks on Sunday 8PM. Billboard claimed in an article in early 1999 that many people involved with dance music thought that "God Is a DJ" should have been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording of 1998.
The song re-entered the UK chart in 2005 following the release of Forever Faithless and reached number 66.
Beneath the dance hall lights
You see my girl so sound
Lights up the ground
If you give up New York
I'll give you Tennessee
The only place to be
The cowboys burning eyes
Don't like the sight of me
Just straight enough to breathe
I like your point of views
So don't you shy away
Ride out the wave
Ride out the wave
Ride out the wave
Ride out the wave
Ride out the wave
You had me holding on
All of the time in place
Ride out the wave
Bury yourself away
The one and only face
Ride out the wave
Ride out the wave
