NSYNC

NSYNC (sometimes stylized as _^★NSYNC) was an American boy band formed in Orlando, Florida in 1995 and launched in Germany by BMG Ariola Munich. NSYNC consisted of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. After heavily publicized legal battles with their former manager Lou Pearlman and former record label Bertelsmann Music Group, the group's second album, No Strings Attached, sold over 1 million copies in one day and 2.42 million copies in one week, which was a record for over fifteen years. In addition to a host of Grammy Award nominations, NSYNC has performed at the World Series, the Super Bowl and the Olympic Games, and sang or recorded with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Nelly, Left Eye, Mary J. Blige, and Gloria Estefan.

Although NSYNC announced the start of a "temporary hiatus" in spring 2002, the band has not recorded new material since. In 2007, Lance Bass confirmed that the group had "definitely broken up." They have sold over 50 million albums during their career becoming the eighth-best-selling boy band in history.Rolling Stone recognized their instant success as one of the Top 25 Teen Idol Breakout Moments of all time.

Overview

On the U.S. version of the album, the songs are mainly performed by lead singers, Justin and JC. JC performs solo on "For the Girl Who Has Everything", "Sundreams" and "Sailing". Justin performs solo on "Riddle". Chris performs solo on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Chris performs with Justin and JC on the two tracks: "Everything I Own" and "I Drive Myself Crazy". Joey performs with Justin and JC on one track: "You Got It". Joey and Chris performs with Justin and JC on one track: "Together Again".

Background

Go-Back-N ARQ

Go-Back-N ARQ is a specific instance of the automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol, in which the sending process continues to send a number of frames specified by a window size even without receiving an acknowledgement (ACK) packet from the receiver. It is a special case of the general sliding window protocol with the transmit window size of N and receive window size of 1. It can transmit N frames to the peer before requiring an ACK.

The receiver process keeps track of the sequence number of the next frame it expects to receive, and sends that number with every ACK it sends. The receiver will discard any frame that does not have the exact sequence number it expects (either a duplicate frame it already acknowledged, or an out-of-order frame it expects to receive later) and will resend an ACK for the last correct in-order frame. Once the sender has sent all of the frames in its window, it will detect that all of the frames since the first lost frame are outstanding, and will go back to the sequence number of the last ACK it received from the receiver process and fill its window starting with that frame and continue the process over again.
