Glitter/Fated

"Glitter"/"Fated" is the forty-first single by Japanese pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki, released on July 18, 2007. "Glitter"/"Fated" was Hamasaki's first single of 2007 and first single in over a year, since the release of "Blue Bird" in June 2006.

History

The first signs of a new single emerged when Hamasaki stated on her Team Ayu fanclub blog on April 26, 2007 that she had just finished writing a new song and was preparing to go record it. On May 17, 2007 the title was revealed on Tower Records' website. On the same date, it was announced that like last year's summer song Blue Bird, glitter would be used as a tie-up to promote Zespri's golden kiwi once again. On May 18, the single was announced officially on Hamasaki's official website. It was stated that this single would be the opening of her "third chapter." Upon availability for preorder on May 19, "Glitter"/"Fated" topped the CD sales chart on Japanese music vendor "Neowing" and its English counterpart "CDJapan" because of the amount of pre-orders that it received. On May 22, several Japanese news websites and vendors reported that "Fated" would be the theme song of the Japanese film Kaidan. It was reported that the theme song would not only be used for the film's release in Japan, but it would also accompany the film's release in over 50 countries. On May 30, 2007, Hamasaki reported on her Team Ayu fanclub blog that she would be flying to Hong Kong after her Asia tour performances in Osaka to film a new short film alongside actor Shawn Yue. The film will feature both "Glitter" and "Fated" and is actually a short movie that runs approximately 18 minutes. She would also share her first onscreen kiss in this video. On June 12, the songs "Glitter" and "Fated" were both leaked in their entirety.

Glitter

Glitter describes an assortment of small, flat, reflective particles. Glitter particles reflect light at different angles, causing the surface to sparkle or shimmer. Glitter is like confetti, sparkles, or sequins, but somewhat smaller. Since prehistoric times, glitter has been made and used as decoration, from many different materials including stones such as malachite,galena,mica,insects, and glass. Modern glitter is usually manufactured from plastic.

Modern glitter

The first production of modern plastic glitter is credited to the American machinist Henry Ruschmann, who found a way to cut sheets into glitter in 1934. During World War II with German glass glitter unavailable, Ruschmann found a market for scrap material ground into glitter made of plastics. He founded Meadowbrook Inventions, Inc. in Bernardsville, New Jersey, and the company is still a producer of industrial glitter. Decades later he filed a patent for a mechanism for cross-cutting films as well as other related inventions.

Glitter (song)

"Glitter" is the lead single from No Age's second album, Everything In Between. The track made its debut during a BBC 6 Music interview with Steve Lamacq.Sub Pop made the track available for download on August 10, 2010. It is available in two physical formats; a 7" b/w "Inflorescence" and a 12" b/w "In Rebound," and "Vision II."

Glitter (How I Met Your Mother)

"Glitter" is the ninth episode of the sixth season of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and the 121st episode overall. It aired on November 15, 2010.

Plot

When Lily becomes obsessed with babies, Robin becomes distant from her. Meanwhile, Barney has found a disc he calls "Robin Sparkles 3," which contains Space Teens, a variety series involving two Canadian teenagers, Robin Sparkles and Jessica Glitter (Nicole Scherzinger), using math to solve crimes presented by Alan Thicke. When conversation turns to why the group has never met Jessica if she and Robin were such good friends, Robin abruptly reveals that she hasn't spoken to Jessica in five years and attempts to drop the subject. When Robin leaves the apartment, Ted discovers a Christmas card Jessica sent to Robin with a picture of Jessica's baby. Ted speculates that Robin dumped Jessica as a friend when Jessica got pregnant, which upsets Lily, who fears that Robin will do the same to her.

When Lily continues to talk about having a baby, Robin becomes fed up with her and the two of them break up, which upsets Marshall. Marshall takes Lily to see Jessica, who works as the organist for the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Jessica reveals that she and Robin became distant after Jessica had a baby and no longer had the time to do all the things best friends do. Jessica has considered getting back in touch with Robin, but never had the courage to try.
