"Give" is a song by American country recording artist LeAnn Rimes, that was released as the third and final single from her album Lady & Gentlemen. The song is written by Connie Harrington, Sonya Isaacs and Jimmy Yeary.

Background

The single was officially released for digital download to iTunes stores and Amazon.com on June 14, 2011. The single was released to radio on July 18, 2011. A set of remixes was released by iTunes stores for digital download on October 11, 2011.

Critical reception

Jonathan Keefe of Slant Magazine gave a mixed review on the song stating that "Rimes delivers a lovely, subtle performance on "Give," but the song lacks the depth of insight that "What I Cannot Change," the standout track on Family, proved she's capable of writing." Randy Lewis of the Los Angeles Times claimed that song takes Rimes "back to the contemporary pop-country mainstream."

Music video

The music video for "Give" was released on Rimes' official YouTube on September 9, 2011. A shorter version of the song was released later on CMT.com. Both videos are directed by Nigel Dick.

Give is the fourth studio album by the Israeli electronica-world fusion trio Balkan Beat Box.

Critical reception

Give received generally favorable reviews from critics, with the exception of a D- from Consequence of Sound's Alex Young. Young wrote that on the album, "the band is able to put checkmarks in all the Balkan Beat Box boxes but fail to meet the standards they set previously in any of them."

Boxcar (band)

Boxcar is an Australian Sydney-based synthpop and techno band. Formed in the mid-1980s in Brisbane by main songwriter guitarist and vocalist David Smith, he was soon joined by keyboardists Brett Mitchell and Carol Rohde and somewhat later by drummer-percussionist Crispin Trist. They initially released several cassette-only releases including the album P.C.M.. Boxcar's early material sounded similar to contemporaries such as Cabaret Voltaire and Severed Heads. Boxcar were also notable for playing many live shows in the Brisbane area and around the country, including shows where they performed wearing gas masks. Performing electronic music live was a difficult feat given the preference in Australian live venues for guitar-driven pub rock and they would sometimes be jeered by members of the crowd.

They rose to prominence after releasing the single "Freemason (You Broke The Promise)" in 1988 after signing with Volition Records, and hit number 8 in the United States Billboard dance music chart. Initially criticised in the local press for being derivative of New Order they nevertheless built a local following, despite a lack of commercial radio airplay for electronic music. "Freemason" was soon followed by the singles "Insect" (remixed by noted producer Arthur Baker) and "Gas Stop (Who Do You Think You Are?)" (remixed by Francois Kevorkian) (both of which also charted in the US but had little local impact - "Gas Stop" peaked at No. 82 on the ARIA singles chart) and by their formal debut album Vertigo on Volition in 1990.

Revision (writing)

Revision is the stage in the writing process where the author reviews, alters, and amends her or his message, according to what has been written in the draft. Revision follows drafting and precedes editing. Drafting and revising often form a loop as a work moves back and forth between the two stages. It is not uncommon for professional writers to go through many drafts and revisions before successfully creating an essay that is ready for the next stage: editing.

In their seminal book, The Elements of Style, William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White acknowledge the need for revision in the writing process: “Few writers are so expert that they can produce what they are after on the first try. Quite often you will discover, on examining the completed work, that there are serious flaws in the arrangement of the material, calling for transpositions... do not be afraid to experiment with your text.”

Identification of thesis. The purpose of the essay should be re-considered based on what has been written in the draft. If this purpose differs from the original thesis, the author must decide from which thesis to continue writing.
