Bellavista (band)

The current lineup includes guitarist/vocalist Rex John Shelverton, bassist Jeremy Bringetto, drummer Matthew Bajda and keyboardist Rachel Hoiem. Shelverton is also known for being a co-founder of the band/duo Tamaryn.

History

Shelverton, Bringetto and Bajda were childhood friends who grew up around Half Moon Bay in Northern California.

All three, along with Jonah Buffa, were originally members of the influential 1990s hardcore punk band Portraits of Past, who helped pioneer the sound that would later become known as screamo. Portraits of Past reformed in 2008.

Shelverton, Bringetto and Buffa were next in the post-punk band The Audience, who released the 1997 Das Audience album on Hymnal Sound and the "Young Soul" 7" single on Gold Standard Laboratories.

Their next band, Vue, formed in 1999 in San Francisco and included Shelverton, Bringetto, Buffa and final drummer Cary LaScala. Vue released three albums: Vue (2000, Sub Pop), Find Your Home (2001, Sub Pop) and Down for Whatever (2003, RCA). They also released the Babies Are for Petting EP on RCA in 2003. Between 2001 and 2004, Vue performed with The Rolling Stones, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Franz Ferdinand, The Faint and Trail Of Dead. Vue disbanded at the end of 2004.

Vue Cinemas

Vue Entertainment (stylised as vue), formerly SBC International Cinemas, is a cinema company operating in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. The company was formed in May 2003 by the acquisition of Warner Village Cinemas by SBC and the subsequent rebranding of the business as Vue. As of 2013 the company has 80 cinemas in the UK, making it the third largest cinema chain in the country, with 755 screens. The company's flagship site is Vue West End, the former Warner Village cinema in Leicester Square.

The company expanded through a number of acquisitions, including the Ster Century chain, Apollo Cinemas and Multikino. In June 2006, Vue's executive team completed a management buy-out with the backing of Bank of Scotland Corporate, taking a 51% stake in the business and buying the four remaining Warner Village sites it had been operating under contract from Village Roadshow. The company was bought by the private equity firm Doughty Hanson & Co in 2010.

In 2013, Doughty Hanson & Co announced the sale of the company to the Canadian firms OMERS and Alberta Investment Management Corporation for £935 million.

Visual Understanding Environment

The Visual Understanding Environment or VUE is a free, open source concept mapping application written in Java. The application is developed by the Academic Technology group at Tufts University. VUE is licensed under the Educational Community License. VUE 3.0, the latest release, was funded under a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The VUE Project

The VUE project at Tufts UIT Academic Technology is focused on creating flexible tools for managing and integrating digital resources in support of teaching, learning and research. VUE provides a flexible visual environment for structuring, presenting, and sharing digital information. Using VUE's concept mapping interface, faculty and students design semantic networks of digital resources drawn from digital libraries, local and remote file systems.

Releases

Tufts University's VUE development team has coordinated releases of the VUE project. The project's most recent release, VUE 3, has added many new features which distinguish it from traditional concept mapping tools. made by the VUE team on their forums, new features include: tools for dynamic presentation of maps, map merge and analysis tools, enhanced keyword tagging and search capabilities, support for semantic mapping using ontologies, expanded search of online resources such as Flickr, Yahoo, Twitter, or PubMed.

Girl$

Girl$ (Chinese: 囡囡) is a 2010 Hong Kong film directed by Kenneth Bi, it deals with teenagers and young women drawn into compensated dating in Hong Kong. The Chinese term 囡囡 (nānān) is a traditional affectionate term for daughter or young girl, but has also become used as euphemism for a prostitute in Hong Kong.

History

Girl$ premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival on 5 April 2010, before going on general release on 2 September 2010.

Plot

Gucci (Wong Si-Man) is a teenager who seeks to enhance her own self-image through the acquisition of luxury goods, bidding online for a designer handbag that she cannot afford. Looking for a way to make quick money she comes into contact with Icy (Michelle Wai). Just 19 herself, Icy acts as an online procuress, down to a single regular working girl, the hypersexual Lin (Una Lin), she offers to act as an agent for the underage Gucci's virginity, she also convinces Ronnie (Bonnie Xian) to go on compensated dates. Ronnie comes from a wealthy background however she finds herself alone and afraid of forming emotional attachments, wanting to avoid the stigma of being a prostitute, she instead pays the men she goes on dates with. Despite the differences in background the four become friends.

Girl +

Girl + is an EP by punk blues band Boss Hog.
