Girabola

Introduction

Girabola, or Campeonato Nacional de Futebol em Séniores Masculinos, is the top division of Angolan football. It is organized by the Angolan Football Federation.

The league winner and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League.

Girabola ZAP

In January 2016, Angolan subscription TV satellite and cable provider ZAP, the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) and the Girabola clubs, signed a three year deal in which ZAP will have broadcast rights over all Girabola matches. As part of the deal, the Angolan state-owned TV station TPA will be allowed to broadcast one game per week on its free-view platform. Also as part of the deal, the Girabola changes its denomination to Girabola ZAP.

1980 Girabola

1980 Girabola was the annual national Angola football (soccer) tournament, Girabola, held in 1980. It was the second national championship organized after Angola achieved independence in 1975. Due to the Angolan Civil War this was the first (and only) tournament that included teams from all Angolan provinces. By then, there were only sixteen provinces. Later on, the province of Lunda was split in two: Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul and Bengo was also created.

Twenty-for teams were divided into four groups of six teams each.

2001 Girabola

The 2001 Girabola was the 23rd season of top-tier football competition in Angola. The season began on 17th March 2001. Petro de Luanda were the defending champions.

The league comprised 14 teams, the bottom three of which were relegated to the 2002 Gira Angola.

Petro de Luanda were crowned champions, winning their 13th title, while Bravos do Maquis, Primeiro de Maio and Progresso do Sambizanga, were relegated. Flávio Amado of Petro de Luanda finished as the top scorer with 23 goals.
