Gimme

In golf, a gimme is a shot that the other players agree can count automatically without being actually played.

When a player has only a very short putt left to play, other players may grant a gimme (i.e. one stroke is counted), but the ball is not actually played. A gimme is a time-saving convention under the tacit assumption that the putt would not have been missed—e.g. when the ball is only a few inches from the hole.

Gimmes are not allowed by the rules in stroke play, though the practice is common in casual matches. However, in match play, either player may formally concede a stroke, a hole, or the entire match at any time, and this may not be refused or withdrawn. A player in match play will generally concede a tap-in or other short putt by his or her opponent.

The word is a colloquial contraction of the phrase "give me".

Gimme (One song)

"Gimme" was the Cypriot entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 by the boy band One, performed in English and is the first occasion that the Cypriot entry did not featured Greek lyrics. The song is a boyband number, with a girl being asked to give a sign that she loves the singers.

The song was performed first on the night, followed by the United Kingdom's Jessica Garlick with "Come Back". At the close of voting, it had received 85 points, placing 6th in a field of 24.

A few seconds after the lead singer Constantinos Christoforou began singing, a technical hitch led to a caption bearing the words 'Ugly Duckling' on the background video screen. Fortunately the picture of the stage was quickly brought back.

One of the members of the band, Constantinos Christoforou, had already participated for Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "Mono Yia Mas". He would later make a further solo appearance at the 2005 Contest with "Ela Ela (Come Baby)" after the band formally disbanded. Therefore the song represents the middle leg in a rare sequence of a Eurovision contestant performing solo, then as a member of a vocal group, before a second solo performance.

Silodosin

Silodosin (trade names Rapaflo (USA), Silodyx (Europe and South Africa), Rapilif (India), Silodal (India), Urief (Japan), Urorec (Russia)) is a medication for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It acts as an α₁-adrenoceptor antagonist with high uroselectivity (selectivity for the prostate).

History

Silodosin received its first marketing approval in Japan in May 2006 under the tradename Urief, which is jointly marketed by Kissei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

Kissei licensed the US, Canadian, and Mexican rights for silodosin to Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2004.

FDA approved silodosin on October 9, 2008. Silodosin is marketed under the trade names Rapaflo in the US and Silodyx in Europe. and Rapilif in India (Ipca Urosciences)

Pharmacology

Since silodosin has high affinity for the α_1A adrenergic receptor, it causes practically no orthostatic hypotension (in contrast to other α₁ blockers). On the other side, the high selectivity seems to be the cause of silodosin's typical side effect of retrograde ejaculation.

KMD

KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or A positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was a hip hop trio active in the early 1990s. The group is best known for launching the career of rapper and producer Zev Love X, who later became MF DOOM. Zev Love X and his younger brother DJ Subroc formed the core of KMD. The group's original third member, Rodan, left before the group signed with Elektra Records; he was replaced with Onyx the Birthstone Kid.

History

Zev Love X, DJ Subroc and Rodan formed KMD in Long Beach, New York, in 1988. The three were Black Muslims active in the Allah Ansaar community. KMD starts as a graffiti crew, who also practises breakdance.

Onyx the Birthstone Kid soon replaced Rodan, who left the group in order to finish high school. MC Serch, a native of nearby Far Rockaway, met the group at community functions and recruited them for a guest spot on "The Gas Face," a single off 3rd Bass' The Cactus Album. The guest appearance caught the attention of A&R executive Dante Ross, who signed KMD to Elektra Records.
