Gigi Gorgeous

Giselle Loren Lazzarato (born Gregory Lazzarato on April 20, 1992), better known as Gigi Gorgeous, is a Canadian actress, model, internet personality, and makeup artist. She is noted for publicly coming out as a transgender woman, and maintaining her public image and YouTube channel during and after her transition. Along with being an internet personality, Lazzarato has also appeared on a number of television shows including Access Hollywood, Good Work, and Project Runway: All Stars, along with starring as herself in the popular online reality show The Avenue for three years. Lazzarato made her acting debut in 2013 on The Insider and has since gone on to star in three short films.

Early life

Lazzarato was assigned male at birth. She is the child of David Lazzarato, the audit committee chairman at Yellow Media, and Judith Lazzarato (née Belding). Her family consists of Italian, Lebanese and French heritage and she was raised in the Roman Catholic faith. She has two brothers, Adam and Cory Lazzarato. As a young adult, Lazzarato was a nationally ranked diving champion. She attended Iona Catholic Secondary School and attended George Brown College. At George Brown, she studied fashion, but eventually left the college to focus on her YouTube career. Her mother, Judith, died of leukemia on February 3, 2012, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto.

Gigi

Gigi (pronounced: [ʒi.ʒi]) is a 1944 novella by French writer Colette. The plot focuses on a young Parisian girl being groomed for a career as a courtesan and her relationship with the wealthy cultured man named Gaston who falls in love with her and eventually marries her.

The novella was the basis for a 1949 French film starring Danièle Delorme and Gaby Morlay.

In 1951, it was adapted for the stage by Anita Loos. Colette had personally picked the yet unknown Audrey Hepburn on first sight to play the title role. Her Aunt Alicia was played by stage legend Cathleen Nesbitt, who was to become Hepburn's acting mentor from that time on. Opening on 24 November 1951 on Broadway at the Fulton Theatre, the play ran for 219 performances (finishing on 31 May 1952) and Hepburn's debut on Broadway earned her a Theatre World Award.

The novella was translated into English by Roger Senhouse and published (with "The Cat" translated by Antonia White) in 1953.

Seven years later, a musical film version with a screenplay by Alan Jay Lerner and a score by Lerner and Frederick Loewe won the Academy Award for Best Picture. This film version starred Leslie Caron and Louis Jourdan. The story of a girl being groomed to be a courtesan by her grandmother made producer Arthur Freed doubt making it as a straight drama would be acceptable to the American censors, so they "cleaned it up" and turned it into a musical.

Gigi (song)

"Gigi" is the title song from the 1958 Academy Award-winning film, directed by Vincente Minnelli. It was written by Frederick Loewe (music) and Alan Jay Lerner (words), sung by Louis Jourdan in the film. It then went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1958.

A cover version by Billy Eckstine peaked at #8 in the UK Singles Chart in 1959. Instrumental version was recorded on March 21, 1962, for the LP There Is Nothing Like a Dame with Pete Candoli and Conte Candoli on trumpets, Shelly Manne on drums, Jimmy Rowles on piano, Howard Roberts on guitar and Gary Peacock on bass. Sergio Franchi recorded the song in England with Wally Stott on his 1964 RCA Victor Red Seal album Women in My Life.

Gigi (play)

Gigi (1951) is a popular play, written by Anita Loos. It is based on Colette's 1945 novel of the same name, and was produced on Broadway, where it starred Audrey Hepburn in the title role.

Plot

The play's plot generally follows that of the original story, focusing on a young 19th century Parisian girl being groomed for a career as a courtesan. Gigi lives with her mother and grandmother, and takes lessons at the home of her aunt. Her lessons include social manners, conversation, and personal relationships. The family has significant social connections, and have been great friends with the rich playboy Gaston. Gaston is bored with his life, and his only joy seems to be in the company of Gigi and her family.

Aunt Alicia decides that the time is right for Gigi's entry into society. After dressing her up, she is presented to Gaston as a young woman. He is, at first, dismayed at the change. Gradually he realizes that he is attracted to Gigi, and takes her out on the town. As the night progresses, Gaston sees the emptiness of his life and wants something more. He proposes marriage to Gigi, and she gladly accepts.

Gorgeous (808 State album)

Gorgeous is the fourth album of the band 808 State, released in 1993 on ZTT Records in the UK and Tommy Boy Records in the US. In October 2008, the album was reissued on ZTT Records including Chapter 3 of journalist Ian Peel's The 808 Story and an additional bonus disk containing 14 remixed tracks, including an unreleased edit of the song "Bombadin".

Reception

Select gave the album a three out of five rating, stating that it is "never more nor less than 'interesting'." and concluding that "the weaknesses of over-familiarity are fully apparent" and "too often leaves you wanting more"

Gorgeous (Kanye West song)

"Gorgeous" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Kanye West from his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The track features a hook provided by Kid Cudi, a recording artist formerly signed to West's label GOOD Music, and a rap verse provided by the Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon. The song was written by West, Cudi, Raekwon, No I.D., Mike Dean and Rhymefest, and was produced by West, No I.D. and Dean. It contains elements of The Turtles's cover version of the song "You Showed Me". "Gorgeous" received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who generally praised the intricacy of the production, the quality of the guest features and the rock music inspired aesthetic of the song. Several critics cited West's verses as a highlight of the track, complimenting his lyricism and delivery.

Before its release, West premiered an a cappella version of the song in the form of a freestyle rap on Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 radio show. Despite not being released as a single, the song appeared on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. Cudi and West performed the song live at SXSW, and West performed the track at the Lollapalooza musical festival. "Gorgeous" was also utilized in West's short film Runaway.
