Gift Grub is a series of short comic pieces broadcast on weekdays on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on the Irish commercial radio station Today FM, having been broadcast since May 8, 1999.
"Gift Grub" originally aired on Today FM's predecessor, Radio Ireland as a three-weekly, two minute sketch series called "Starship Compromise", a parody of Star Trek featuring Gerry Adams as a starship captain accompanied by his faithful officer, Martin McGuinness with the two scouring the galaxy, seeking compromise with alien beings.
In 1998, Ian Dempsey joined Radio Ireland which had then been renamed "Today FM". A year later, in March 1999, Paul McLoone, a producer who had moved to Dublin around that time from his native Derry in Northern Ireland joined Today FM and subsequently became a producer for the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show.
McLoone later came up with the concept of "Gift Grub" and was also responsible for co-creating Gift Grub alongside Irish comedian Mario Rosenstock with "Gift Grub" becoming a huge success and helping Today FM in the process with the first ever Gift Grub sketch airing on May 8, 1999. Seven months later, in November 1999 the Northern Irish pop-punk/New Wave band, The Undertones reformed and following the refusal of original singer Feargal Sharkey to rejoin the band, McLoone became the band's current frontman/lead vocalist.
GNU GRUB (short for GNU GRand Unified Bootloader) is a boot loader package from the GNU Project. GRUB is the reference implementation of the Free Software Foundation's Multiboot Specification, which provides a user the choice to boot one of multiple operating systems installed on a computer or select a specific kernel configuration available on a particular operating system's partitions.
GNU GRUB was developed from a package called the Grand Unified Bootloader (a play on Grand Unified Theory). It is predominantly used for Unix-like systems. The GNU operating system uses GNU GRUB as its boot loader, as do most Linux distributions. The Solaris operating system has used GRUB as its boot loader on x86 systems, starting with the Solaris 10 1/06 release.
Users can dynamically configure the GRUB subsystem. GRUB loads its configuration at startup, allowing boot-time changes, such as selecting different kernels or initial RAM disks. To this end, GRUB provides a simple, bash-like, command line interface, which lets users write new boot sequences on the fly, in addition to the normal menu lists.
Grub is a hamlet is the municipality of Amerang in Bavaria, Germany.
The location lies between Kirchensur and Schnaitsee. As of July 2015, twelve people live in Grub.
Grub was first mentioned in 1467. The housing stock in 1857 consisted of residential building, horse and cow stable, barn, granary and oven. In 1871 the cowshed was rebuilt and in 1865 a bakehouse and a laundry were added.
Grub is an open source distributed search crawler platform.
Users of Grub can download the peer-to-peer grubclient software and let it run during computer idle time. The client indexes the URLs and sends them back to the main grub server in a highly compressed form. The collective crawl could then, in theory, be utilized by an indexing system, such as the one being proposed at Wikia Search. Grub is able to quickly build a large snapshot by asking thousands of clients to crawl and analyze a small portion of the web each.
Wikia has now released the entire Grub package under an open source software license. However, the old Grub clients are not functional anymore. New clients can be found on the Wikia wiki.
The project was started in 2000 by Kord Campbell, Igor Stojanovski, and Ledio Ago in Oklahoma City. Undetermined copyright, patent or trademark rights from Grub, Inc. were purchased in 2003 for $1.3 million by LookSmart, Ltd. For a short time the original team continued working on the project, releasing several new versions of the software, albeit under a closed license.
