Gethin Jones

Gethin Clifford Jones (born 12 February 1978) is a Welsh television presenter. An active rugby union player while at Manchester Metropolitan University and, for a time, after graduation, Jones began his television career on Welsh language channel S4C as a presenter of children's programmes such as Popty, Mas Draw and the flagship children's entertainment show Uned 5 (Unit 5, 2002–05).

In 2005, he became the 31st presenter of BBC children's programme Blue Peter.

Early life and education

Jones was born on 12 February 1978 in Cardiff, the son of Sylvia (née Groskop), a violin teacher, and Goronwy Jones, headteacher of Baden Powell Primary School. He has an older sister, Mererid. One of his maternal great-grandfathers was a Polish Jewish immigrant. With Welsh as his first language, he attended Ysgol Gynradd Coed-y-Gof and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf (in Llandaff North, Cardiff) for his primary and secondary school education, respectively. Jones has Grade 8 violin and Grade 6 piano qualifications, and took part in school musicals and school and county orchestras. He took Biology, Geography and Economics at A-Levels.

Gethin Jones (footballer)

Gethin Jones (born 8 August 1981) is a Welsh footballer who plays for Port Talbot Town as a defender.

Football career

Cardiff City (2001–2003)

Born in Carmarthen, He played for Carmarthen Town FC. Cardiff City bought him for a fee around £50,000. Jones began his professional footballing career at Cardiff City. He made three appearances in The Football League for Cardiff. Jones made his debut in the Football League Trophy Southern Section First Round in the 7–1 home win over Rushden & Diamonds on 15 October 2001, replacing Andy Thompson as a substitute in the 84th minute. However he has a horrific injury, he broke his leg during a game and ended his Cardiff City career.

Merthyr Tydfil (2003–2005)

Jones made his first appearance for Merthyr Tydfil, in the Southern Football League Premier Division in August 2003 against Chesham United. He played for two years at Merthyr Tydfil.

Bath City (2005–2013)

Jones joined Bath City in the summer of 2005. He has played over two hundred times for the club.

Gethin Jones (footballer, born 1995)

Gethin Wynne Jones (born 13 October 1995) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays for Everton.

Career

Jones was born in Perth, Western Australia, and joined Everton's academy at the age of 12. His position switched from central midfield to right back. He helped Everton win the Under-18 Premier League in May 2014, then signed a one-year professional contract.

He made his professional debut for the club on 11 December 2014, replacing Tyias Browning in the final minute of a UEFA Europa League match against FC Krasnodar. Everton, having already advanced from the group, lost the match 01 at Goodison Park.

On 25 March 2015, Jones was loaned to League Two team Plymouth Argyle for the remainder of the season. He made his debut nine days later, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1–1 draw with league leaders Burton Albion at Home Park. He played a total of six league games as Plymouth reached the play-offs, featuring in the first leg of their eventual semi-final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-finals.
