Taana Gardner
Taana Gardner is an American disco and post-discosinger who found her success through West End Records from 1979 to the present day. She is also a former member of the Aural Exciters.
Early life
Born in Newark, New Jersey (where she currently resides), Taana is the granddaughter of a professional opera singer. Her musical career began at the age of eleven when she became active in theater and joined the Harlem Children's Theater Group. Her theater debut was at Lincoln Center as the high priestess in the "Land of the Egyptian," a musical which she also co-wrote. Taana went on to perform with the Dance Theater of Harlem and the National Black Theater.
Career
Musical beginnings: late 1970s–1980s
Vocalist Taana Gardner was one of the leading lights of West End Records, a New York label that released some of the finest and most influential disco during the late 1970s and early ‘80s. At a very young age, Gardner knew that she wanted to act and sing. Her grandmother, a former opera singer, began giving her vocal lessons at the age of five. Before she hit her teens, she was already a playwright; her work was featured at the Lincoln Center and also at the Apollo.
Get Up and Boogie
Get Up and Boogie (sometimes also known simply as Silver Convention) is the second studio album by the German disco group Silver Convention, and perhaps best known for including the song "Get Up and Boogie", which hit #1 on June 15, 1976 in Canada and reached #2 in the United States. As with their previous album, the lyrics are minimalistic. Released in 1976, it proved popular on the dance floors and experienced some commercial success as well, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Black Albums chart and number 13 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. Critical reception of the album was mixed, both back then and today, although an Allmusic review called it "a respectable, if uneven, Euro-disco effort that boasts the disco smash 'Get Up and Boogie'". The album has since been released on iTunes in several countries, sometimes under the title Silver Convention.

"Get Up and Boogie" is a song by the German Euro disco group Silver Convention from their second studio album Get Up and Boogie (1976). The song was written and composed by Sylvester Levay and Stephan Prager, and produced by Michael Kunze. The song was released as the lead single from the album Get Up and Boogie (also titled Silver Convention in some countries) in 1976. It peaked at number two in the US. Billboard ranked it as the number twenty-four song for 1976.
Composition
Just like their previous 1975 hit single "Fly, Robin, Fly", "Get Up and Boogie" consists of six words repeated throughout the song: "Get up and boogie! That's right!".
Chart performance
"Get Up and Boogie" hit number one on June 15, 1976 in Canada and reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. "Get Up and Boogie" became a disco hit during the late 1970s disco scene.
