Get Down! (album)

Get Down! is an album by Soulive that was released on September 24, 2002 as a reissue. It was originally recorded between March and June 1999. The album was produced by Jeff Krasno and Sean Hoess.

The album is widely regarded as Soulive's first album. With this release, Soulive made its debut with the typical jazz organ trio combination of Eric Krasno on guitar, Alan Evans on drums, and Neal Evans on a Hammond B3 . This album includes the popular "Uncle Junior," which has since become a fan favorite and major staple of a live Soulive performance.

Get Down (James Arthur song)

"Get Down" is a song recorded by British singer-songwriter James Arthur. It was released on 3 March 2014 as the fourth single from his self-titled debut studio album, James Arthur (2013).

Background

On 14 January 2014, Arthur confirmed on Twitter that "Get Down" would be the fourth single to be released from his debut album. The track premiered online on 20 January.

Some radio stations were reluctant to play the song due to Arthur's infamous homophobic rant in November 2013. Several stations even blacklisted the song. A petition was launched on the website change.org in a bid to get Arthur some airplay. The petition stated that Arthur is 'A talented singer who needs to be heard' and urged BBC Radio 1 to play "Get Down". The petition was signed by over 830 people. The single made only to number 96 on the UK Singles Chart.

The audio track was uploaded to YouTube on 20 January 2014. The official music video premiered on 3 March 2014, the same day as the single's release.

Down-low (sexual slang)

Down-low is an African American slang term that typically refers to a subculture of African-American men who usually identify as heterosexual, but who have sex with men; some avoid sharing this information even if they have female sexual partner(s) married or single. The term is also used to refer to a related sexual identity. Down-low has been viewed as "a type of impression management that some of the informants use to present themselves in a manner that is consistent with perceived norms about masculine attribute, attitudes and behaviour".

Origins

The term originated in the African American community, and was originally used to describe "any kind of slick, secretive behavior, including infidelity in heterosexual relationships."

According to a study published in the Journal of Bisexuality, "[t]he Down Low is a lifestyle predominately practiced by young, urban African American men who have sex with other men and women, yet do not identify as gay or bisexual."

In this context, "being on the Down Low" is more than just men having sex with men in secret, or a variant of closeted homosexuality or bisexuality — it is a sexual identity that is, at least partly, defined by its "cult of masculinity" and its rejection of what is perceived as white culture (including white LGBT culture) and terms. A 2003 New York Times Magazine cover story on the Down Low phenomenon explains that the black community sees "homosexuality as a white man's perversion." Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)

"Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)" is an R&B song about infidelity, released as a single by R. Kelly and featuring The Isley Brothers, on his self-titled album, in 1995. The song was a hit, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number one on the R&B Singles Chart for seven weeks, making it Kelly's fifth single to do so on the latter.

The music video was directed by Hype Williams and R. Kelly. The song was a tongue-in-cheek song that had the narrator fooling around with another man's woman and telling the woman to keep their relationship as a closely guarded secret, hence the chorus "Keep it on the down low / Nobody has to know." While Kelly sings along, the "husband", Ronald Isley, sings in his trademark falsetto exclaiming "How could you go so low?"

Music video

The music video to the song was as popular as the song. It was one of Kelly's first self-directed videos, and was the first large-scale video Kelly had done. Introducing Isley as the character Mr. Frank Biggs, a mob boss who employs Kelly. Mr. Biggs sends for Kelly, telling him he's going on a business trip and wants Kelly to take care of his wife, Lila Heart (played by Garcelle Beauvais), explaining "You know Lila means everything to me", even leaving him money to take her out. Biggs tells Kelly "Take her out, take her shopping, Give her anything she wants, But you are never to touch her." Kelly replies "Hey man, you can trust me," in which Biggs responds, "don't fuck me, Kelly". Kelly plays out the lyrics to the song by having Mr. Biggs go out of town on business while Kelly and Lila go out on the town. At one point, Lila shows up at Kelly's home where they make love, despite Mr. Biggs telling Kelly to not getting physically involved with her.

Get Down Low

"Get Down Low" is a song by English record producer TC. It was released on 26 November 2013 through Skrillex's record label OWSLA. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 183.

Background and release

The song is inspired by a crowd TC performed to in Romania. Casswell sent the demo version of the song to Skrillex in early 2013. Skrillex liked the song and asked TC to release an EP on his vanity record label OWSLA. The song premiered on 17 March 2013 during Dog Blood's Ultra Music Festival set. 1Xtra DJ and drum and bass producer Friction played the song frequently during his 2013 live sets. Shortly before release, on 13 November 2013, it was made Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World for the week and received extensive airplay on the likes of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

Music video

The music video for the song was released onto the UKF Drum & Bass YouTube channel on 25 November 2013 and lasts a total length of three minutes and twenty-seven seconds.
