Get down is a stance, posture or movement in many traditional African cultures and throughout the African diaspora. It involves bending at the waist and knees, bringing the body low to the ground in moments of ecstasy or intensity. Bending at the knees and waist is an expression of profound spirituality and connectedness to the earth. It also indicates suppleness and conveys qualities and values of vitality, youthfulness and energy.
In Gahu choreography, often dancers move counterclockwise in a circle of alternating men and women; their performance includes "long passages of a lightly bouncy basic 'step' leavened with brief 'get down' sections in which the dancers lower their center of weight and move with intensified strength and quickness."
The term "get down" in popular music and slang is directly related to this particular element of the African aesthetic, filtered through the African-American experience. Use of the term by white Americans since the middle-20th century, though, is credited to the influence of a white disc jockey, Bill "Hoss" Allen, who used it on his nightly soul music shows on Nashville, Tennessee station WLAC.
"Get Down" is a song recorded by British singer-songwriter James Arthur. It was released on 3 March 2014 as the fourth single from his self-titled debut studio album, James Arthur (2013).
On 14 January 2014, Arthur confirmed on Twitter that "Get Down" would be the fourth single to be released from his debut album. The track premiered online on 20 January.
Some radio stations were reluctant to play the song due to Arthur's infamous homophobic rant in November 2013. Several stations even blacklisted the song. A petition was launched on the website change.org in a bid to get Arthur some airplay. The petition stated that Arthur is 'A talented singer who needs to be heard' and urged BBC Radio 1 to play "Get Down". The petition was signed by over 830 people. The single made only to number 96 on the UK Singles Chart.
The audio track was uploaded to YouTube on 20 January 2014. The official music video premiered on 3 March 2014, the same day as the single's release.
No Dice is an album by British rock band Badfinger, issued by Apple Records and released on 9 November 1970. Their second album under the Badfinger name and third album overall, No Dice significantly expanded the British group's popularity, especially abroad. The album included both the hit single "No Matter What" and the song "Without You", which would become one of the most successful compositions of the rock era.
Although this was the band's second album released under the Badfinger name, the previous album, Magic Christian Music, was originally recorded as The Iveys but released as Badfinger. It was the band's first album recorded after new guitarist Joey Molland joined the group, replacing bassist Ron Griffiths. Molland's addition caused Tom Evans to switch from rhythm guitar to bass. Badfinger would release five albums, generally their most successful recordings, with this line-up.
No Dice peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. Widely praised in music reviews at the time, Rolling Stone magazine opined that it represented what the Beatles would have sounded like had they retained their initial formula.
Dorian Gray is the main character of the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) by Oscar Wilde.
Dorian Gray may also refer to:
Dorian Gray was an 1980s Yugoslav music group which achieved great prominence in the former Yugoslav rock scene for its artistic and extravagant style and stage performances. It was led by Massimo Savić, who later started a successful solo career. It should not be confused with the short-lived 1970s German band of the same name.
The band was formed in 1982 in Zagreb, then SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia consisting of the frontman Massimo Savić (vocals, guitar), Vedran Čupić (guitar), Emil Krnjić (bass guitar), Toni Ostojić (keyboards), and Branko Terzić (drums), who suggested the name Dorian Gray after the Oscar Wilde's fictional character Dorian Gray. Since the group was into art rock, influenced by artists such as David Sylvian's Japan, Bryan Ferry's Roxy Music and some David Bowie's works, the other members found the suggested name appropriate and gladly accepted it.
Their early rehearsals and gigs were taking place in the art gallery of the Zagreb's Student Centre. After performing in Croatia and the then-SR Slovenia the group soon got critically acclaimed across the whole former Yugoslav federation and took part in the notable music festival YURM (Yugoslav Rock Moment).
Maria Luisa Mangini (2 February 1928 – 15 February 2011), better known as Dorian Gray, was an Italian actress.
Gray made her stage debut in 1950, and quickly became a known and acclaimed actress. However, after five years she left the world of the theater and devoted herself to cinema.
The role she played most often in films was that of a seductive sex kitten; most famously, she played the titular "bad girl" in Totò, Peppino e la malafemmina, considered one of the absolute classics of Italian comedy. However, she also had a chance to demonstrate her dramatic talents in Michelangelo Antonioni's Il grido, to great critical acclaim. In 1957, at the peak of her popularity, she also took part in The Nights of Cabiria by Federico Fellini.
Her career ended by choice soon thereafter. In 1965, awaiting the birth of her son, she retired from acting and never made another public appearance.
On February 15, 2011, Gray committed suicide by gunshot at her home in Torcegno. She was 83 years old; some media, however, reported her age as 75, since she herself claimed to have been born in 1936.
Why all those younger guys
Falling for you in the looks disguise
Making you feel like you're thirty
And just being dirty
Your thick brown hair
Who was that millionaire
Showing you his piles of golden hair
He was so rich but uneasy
Trying to tease me
But I don't care
Painting your face
Finding the pace of life
Beatiful past under the mask
You wear
You're a movie star
Who's caught in a dream
The silver stream
You know what I mean
How can you sleep at night
Knowing that secrets, secrets, secrets
Secrets you locked up tight
Off your shoulder it's good being older
Without a care
Painting your face
Finding the pace of life
Beatiful past under the mask
You wear
