George Waggner

George Waggner (September 7, 1894 - December 11, 1984) was an American film director, producer and actor.

Born in New York City, he made his film debut as Yousayef in The Sheik (1921). He later went on to appearances in Western films. The first film he directed was Western Trails (1938).

In the 1960s, he directed episodes of the television series Maverick, Batman, The Green Hornet, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. He directed John Wayne and Oliver Hardy wearing coonskin caps in The Fighting Kentuckian (1949), in which his daughter, Shy Waggner, appeared in a cameo. His career in film declined in the 1950s, due to the popularity of television, and he eventually moved to television late in the decade.

He directed Red Nightmare, a Cold War propaganda film produced by the Department of Defense and narrated by Jack Webb. Waggner wrote the film Queen of the Yukon based on a story by Jack London.

Personal life

Waggner's wife was Danny Shannon. The couple had only one child, Shy, born in 1924, and two grandchildren, Sherry and Robert.

George of Evdokia

George of Evdokia (born George Wagner March 10, 1930 in Berlin, Germany – April 6, 1993 in Paris) was an Eastern Orthodox archbishop of the Ecumenical Patriarchate who led the Patriarchal Exarchate for Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe from 1981 to 1993.

Having studied theology at the St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris (where he later served as a professor), he was ordained in 1955 into the Russian Orthodox Church for service in that city.

He became a monk in March 1971. In October that year he was consecrated as an assistant bishop to Archbishop George Tarassov. In May 1981, he was elected to be the successor of Archbishop George as head of the exarchate, a capacity in which he served until his death in Paris on April 6, 1993.

George Raymond Wagner (March 24, 1915 – December 26, 1963) was an American professional wrestler best known by his ring name Gorgeous George. In the United States, during the First Golden Age of Professional Wrestling in the 1940s–1950s, Gorgeous George gained mainstream popularity and became one of the biggest stars of this period, gaining media attention for his outrageous character, which was described as flamboyant and charismatic. He was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002 and the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2010.

Early life

George Raymond Wagner was born March 24, 1915 in Butte, Nebraska. For a time, he and his parents lived on a farm near the village of Phoenix in Holt County and probably in Seward County before they moved to Waterloo, Iowa and later Sioux City. When George was age seven, his family moved to Houston, Texas, where he associated with kids from a tough neighborhood. As a child, he trained at the local YMCA and often staged matches against his friends. In 1929, Wagner dropped out of Milby High School at age 14, and worked odd jobs to help support his family. At this time, he competed at carnivals, where he could earn 35 cents for a win. By age 17, he was getting booked by the region's top promoter, Morris Siegel, and in 1938, he won his first title by defeating Buck Lipscomb for Northwest Middleweight crown. Moreover, on May 19, 1939, he captured the Pacific Coast Light Heavyweight Championship.
