Unity (Avishai Cohen album)

Unity is the 4th studio album by Israeli jazz bassist Avishai Cohen, released in 2001.

The album presents a project named "The International Vamp Band", a band with five members (not including Cohen), from four different countries: Avi Lebovich and Yagil Baras from Israel, Diego Urcola from Argentina, Antonio Sanchez from Mexico, and Yosvany Terry from Cuba.

The musical genre of the album is inspired by all four cultures, and it combines the roots of Jazz, Latin, Classical Music and Worldbeat. The album and the band names refers to this combination of international styles, and it delivers a message of unity and world peace.

In this album Cohen lays down the double bass, his specialty, in favor of the piano (the first instrument he had learned). Baras, who also played in Cohen's album Colors of 2000, replaces him on the double bass.

Superman: The Animated Series

Superman: The Animated Series (STAS) is an American animated television series based on the DC Comics flagship character, Superman. It was produced by Warner Bros. Animation and originally aired on The WB Television Network from September 6, 1996 to February 12, 2000. The series was the first of several spin-offs of the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, and was equally praised for its thematic complexity, quality animation, maturity and modernization of its title character.

Overview

Premiering ten years after the 1986 reboot of the Superman comic-book character, the animated series paid tribute to both the classic Superman of old and the newer "modern" Superman. For instance, the depiction of Krypton reflects the older idealized version in the Silver Age of Comic Books while the scope of Superman's powers reflect the more restrained contemporary concept as developed by John Byrne in that the superhero has to struggle to perform spectacular feats, while Clark Kent is shown to be openly, if quietly, self-confident (similar to the depiction of Batman's alter-ego, Bruce Wayne, in Batman: The Animated Series).

George, son of David VII of Georgia

George, Giorgi, (Georgian: გიორგი) (1250–1268) was the eldest son of David VII Ulu, a Bagratid king of Georgia, by whom he was designated as heir-apparent to the throne. In the early 1260s, he was held as a hostage at the Mongol Ilkhan court of Hulagu Khan and later served with his father in the Mongol military ranks. He died at the age of 18 in 1268, preceding his father by two years.

Biography

George was born in 1250 to King David VII and the Alan woman Altun, whom the king took as a temporary wife because he had no children by his queen Jigda-Khatun and whom he agreed to dismiss after the birth of an heir. The marriage was, in fact, repudiated after the birth of the second child, a daughter, Tamar. George was adopted by Jigda-Khatun, who died shortly afterwards. George, along with his father, step-mother, and the uncle David VI Narin, is mentioned in a church inscription from Abelia in the south of Georgia.

George (Blackadder)

George was a supporting character who appeared in various adaptations of the BBC sitcom Blackadder, played by Hugh Laurie. Each series saw a different incarnation of the character, because each was set in a different period of history. He was most prominently featured in the third and fourth series, shouting almost all of his lines throughout both. The character was added to the series as a replacement for the Lord Percy Percy character, who did not appear in the third instalment because Tim McInnerny, the actor playing him, feared being typecast.

The first incarnation of the character was a caricature of George, Prince of Wales, serving as the main antagonist of the third series. The second, Lt. The Hon. George Colthurst St Barleigh, was a young officer in the British Army during World War I, a supporting protagonist in the fourth series. Both portrayals were of "dim-witted upper-class twits", who depended greatly on Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson). The character garnered positive responses from critics.

Jordi (bishop of Vic)

Jordi (Latin: Georgius, George; died 947) was the bishop of Vic (Ausona) from 914 until his death. After the death of bishop Idalguer, the clergy and people (plebs) of Vic acclaimed as bishop Jordi, whom they described as "noble, prudent, sober and chaste". His election was confirmed on 17 June 914.

In 935, he consecrated the second monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll under abbot Ennego. In 945, he confirmed the foundation of the monastery of Santa Cecília de Montserrat under abbot Cesari and the rule of Saint Benedict, but retained episcopal control over it. He also consecrated the church of Santa Maria de Manresa around 937.

During his episcopate, Jordi expanded the property holdings of the diocese. On 3 August 915, a certain Leupardus (Llopart) donated some land in Felporc to Vic for the sake of his soul and that of his wife, Gaudesinda (Godesenda). On 28 February 919, Jordi purchased a vineyard at Seva from Ferminus (Fermí) and his wife, Eldogiva (El·lovija). On 17 July 918 the diocese was the recipient of half of a vineyard at Fontcoberta from one Ferruç. In the town of Vic itself Jordi received an allodial grant on 21 October 921. In 925, Jordi donated the churches of Sant Martí de Vinyoles and Sant Sadurní de Sovelles to the monastery of Ripoll. In separate transactions on 11 November 941 and 19 November 942, Jordi purchased two halves of a vineyard at Sevedà for thirty solidi each. He was the first bishop of Vic to organise an ecclesiastical structure in the region of the Moianès.
