Albert George Percy "Staunch" Owens (20 August 1900 – 7 October 1986) was an Australian rules footballer who played for East Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). He was a seven-time WAFL premiership player with East Perth and was on the losing side of a grand final three times. After turning to umpiring he was involved in a further five grand finals, a total of 15 as a player and umpire.

Playing career

Born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Owens moved to Perth as a child, and played in a combined Perth schools team that toured the Goldfields in 1911. He made his debut for the East Perth team in the Ex-Scholars' league at the age of 14, and two years later made his debut for East Perth's senior team in the WAFL. Owens was with East Perth during a golden period for the club and played in seven premiership team, including five in a row from 1919 to 1923. He was generally a ruckman but could often play as a centre half-forward. In 1925 he won the Sandover Medal, receiving four votes.

George 'Dodger' Owens was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1910s and '20s, playing club level rugby union (RU) for Swansea RFC, and playing representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales, and at club level for Wigan, as a stand-off/five-eighth, i.e. number 6.

Following a meeting with a Wigan rugby league club representative at the Bush Hotel, Swansea on Sunday 28 September 1913, Swansea RFC's rugby union Half-back pairing of Sidney Jerram, and George Owens were each signed for £180 down payment (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £61,630 in 2013), guaranteed win bonuses, and jobs for £2 per week cash.

International honours

George Owens won a cap for Wales (RL) while at Wigan in 1923.

George Owens played stand-off/five-eighth, in Wigan's 22-10 victory over Warrington in the Championship final during the 1925–26 season at Knowsley Road, St. Helens on Saturday 8 May 1926 .
