Make-Up (Japanese band)

MAKE-UP was a hard rock and heavy metal Japanese band formed in 1983. The band became very famous in Japan for their work on the theme songs for the anime Saint Seiya. The band also recorded three albums with songs inspired by the same anime: Saint Seiya Hits I, Saint Seiya Hits II and Saint Seiya 1996 Song Collection.

History

In 1984 they performed their first show and released their first two albums: Howling Will and Straight Liner.

In 1985, they released their third album Born to Be Hard and their fourth and final album Rock Legend of Boys and Girls.

In 1986, the band is invited by Nippon Columbia to sing the Saint Seiya theme songs. Pegasus Fantasy came to be one of the most well-known anime songs of all time. In 2012, an Omega version is used for Saint Seiya Omega.

After the Saint Seiya albums, the band split up and each member followed their own solo careers.

In 2004, Nippon Columbia released Make-Up 20th Anniversary Memories of Blue, a box that included five CDs and a live DVD, but no new song were recorded.

Revivre

Revivre (Hangul: 화장; RR: Hwajang; lit. "Cremation" or "Make-up/Cosmetics") is a 2014 South Korean drama film directed by Im Kwon-taek and starring Ahn Sung-ki. It premiered in the Out of Competition section of the 71st Venice International Film Festival in 2014, and was released in South Korean theaters on April 9, 2015.

The film is based on Kim Hoon's short story Cremation (also translated as From Powder to Powder), which won the Yi Sang Literary Award in 2004.

Plot

Mr. Oh is in his mid-fifties and is a successful marketing executive (sangmoo or managing director) at a major cosmetics company. He struggles to juggle corporate life and preparing for a new ad campaign, while tirelessly caring for his ailing wife, whose health has steadily and painfully deteriorated in the last four years due to brain cancer. During this difficult time, Oh also becomes aware of his growing feelings for Choo Eun-joo, the much younger, alluring new addition to his marketing team. When his wife finally succumbs to her disease, Oh becomes conflicted over his profound grief and newfound passion.

Make-Up (1937 film)

Make-Up is a 1937 British drama film directed by Alfred Zeisler and starring Nils Asther, June Clyde and Judy Kelly. It was a circus film made by an independent production company at Shepperton Studios.

Genetic relationship (linguistics)

In linguistics, genetic relationship is the usual term for the relationship which exists between languages that are members of the same language family. The term genealogical relationship is sometimes used to avoid confusion with the unrelated use of the term in biological genetics. Languages that possess genetic ties with one another belong to the same linguistic grouping, known as a language family. These ties are established through use of the comparative method of linguistic analysis.

Two languages are considered to be genetically related if one is descended from the other or if both are descended from a common ancestor. For example, Italian is descended from Latin. Italian and Latin are therefore said to be genetically related. Spanish is also descended from Latin. Therefore, Spanish and Italian are genetically related. In a similar way, Swedish and Norwegian are genetically related through the North Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family.

Taia (band)

Taia (大鴉, literally "Raven") was a female fronted metal band from Okinawa, Japan. They are named after the Edgar Allan Poe poem "The Raven".

History

The band was formed in 1998, by college classmates; Taka, Yasha and Hakua, as an Iron Maiden cover band. Seika soon joined and they felt having a female vocalist would make their music more interesting.

In 2000, Taia released a self-titled demo and the following year a second, entitled "Sanctus". The group eventually found its current sound with the arrival of a keyboardist.

In 2002, Taia won a prize with their song "Beware". In the same year Fuuga replaced the old keyboardist, and the band released their first single "Sorrow".

In 2004 they released their second single, "Yumegatari". That same year, Taia went on their first tour in Tohoku, while Higa joined as second guitarist.

In February 2005, the band appeared on the Trendkill2005 compilation, and later in May on Total Steel Okinawa 2005. By the end of the year, on the 16th of November they released their first album, Asymmetry, which was followed by a tour in Okinawa, Tokyo and Osaka.

Make (magazine)

Make (or MAKE) is an American bimonthly magazine published by Maker Media which focuses on do it yourself (DIY) and/or DIWO (Do It With Others) projects involving computers, electronics, robotics, metalworking, woodworking and other disciplines. The magazine is marketed to people who enjoy making things and features complex projects which can often be completed with cheap materials, including household items. Make magazine is considered "a central organ of the maker movement."

Its first issue was released in January 2005, and as of March 2014, 38 issues have been published. The magazine is subtitled "technology on your time." It is also available as an IPad version and a Texterity digital edition on the Web, which is free of charge to existing magazine subscribers. The HTML-based digital edition allows for searching and includes additional content such as videos, with freely accessible blogs, podcasts and forums also available in the website. The digital edition also allows limited sharing of articles with friends.
