Gene Glynn

Eugene Patrick Glynn (born September 22, 1956, at Waseca, Minnesota) is an American professional baseball coach and a former minor league manager and second baseman. Named the 2015 third base coach of the Minnesota Twins on November 12, 2014, he also has held coaching positions with four other Major League teams. As an active player, he stood 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) tall, weighed 155 pounds (70 kg), and threw and batted right-handed.

Glynn graduated from Waseca High School and Mankato State University, where he starred in both baseball and basketball. He was Minnesota's first "Mr. Basketball" in 1975.

Glynn was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Montreal Expos in 1979 and played seven seasons in Montreal's farm system, including parts of three campaigns (1982–1984) at the Class AAA level. His rookie season, in the 1979 New York-Penn League, was his best, with 36 runs batted in in 64 games played, 71 runs scored, and a batting average of .296. He managed five seasons (1987–1988; 1990–1992) in Short Season-A baseball, beginning in the New York-Penn League. His 1990 Spokane Indians, a San Diego Padres affiliate, won the Northwest League championship.

Glynn

Glynn (from Irish: an Gleann, meaning "the valley") is a small village and civil parish in the Larne Borough Council area of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It lies a short distance south of Larne, on the shore of Larne Lough. Glynn had a population of 2,027 people in the 2011 Census.

History

The Church of Gluaire is supposed to have been founded by St Patrick in 435 A.D. The ruins of an old stone church still stand within the village boundary. Prior to baronial division, the county of Antrim was divided into the districts of North Clandeboye and Glynns (Glynnes). The area was a vicarage in the Diocese of Connor and ecclesiastical province of Armagh and was a gift of the Marquess of Donegall.

The village is then mentioned in a grant from King James I to Arthur Lord Chichester, Baron of Belfast, of his estates in Antrim, Down and Carrickfergus. This grant was dated 20 November 1620. In a later grant from King Charles II to Edward, Viscount Chichester, Glynn was mentioned as being part of the territory of Magheramorne.
