Gauri Deshpande (11 February 1942 – 1 March 2003) was a novelist, short story writer, and poet from Maharashtra, India. She wrote in Marathi and English.

Deshpande had two daughters, Urmilla Deshpande and Meithilli Mitchell, with her first husband, Avinash Deshpande; and one daughter, Sava Saheli Singh, with naval architect Surindar Singh. Urmilla is also a novelist currently living in Tallahassee, FL. Meithilli lives in St. Catharines, Ontario and has published papers on sustainability. Sava lives in Brooklyn, NY working on her PhD at NYU.
Deshpande (Marathi: देशपांडे)(Kannada: ದೇಶಪಾಂಡೆ)(Hindi: देशपांडे) is one of the most famous Brahmin surnames in the state of Maharashtra, North Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Deshpande was the revenue post created by the King Krishnadevraya of Devgiri (Daulatabad). One Deshpande used to be appointed superior to about 10 Pandes.
