Garo (band)
Garo was a '70s threepiece acoustic Japanese Rock group. The band was composed of Mark Horiuchi (1949-2014), Tommy Hidaka (1950-1986) and Masumi "Vocal" Ohno (b. 1949). They recorded with Columbia and had a few chart hits, including no. 1 "Gakuseigai-no-Kissaten" in 1973. Subsequent singles also reached the top of the Japanese Oricon chart.
Garo formed in 1970 and was the first Japanese acoustic rock band to enter the Japanese charts. Their harmony vocals and acoustic guitar playing, which were heavily influenced by the style of Crosby Stills Nash and Young, became a phenomenon in Japan 1973/74.
Musical differences broke up the band in December 1975. A retrospective 11 CD/DVD box set of the band entitled "GARO BOX" (NO.JP0604-01) was released from Sony Music Entertainment Japan on 30 November 2006.
Garo (TV series)
Garo (牙狼〈GARO〉（ガロ）, literally "Fanged Wolf" in English), sometimes referred to as Golden Knight Garo (黄金騎士ガロ, Ōgon Kishi Garo), is a Japanese tokusatsu television series. It was broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 7, 2005 to March 31, 2006, lasting 25 episodes (with one additional "Overview" special, summarizing the events of episodes 1 through 13, aired before episode 14). Since 2007, the show has also been aired in other countries like Italy (on MTV), Malaysia (on 8TV), and Spain (on Canal Buzz). It is the first installment of the "GARO" franchise, composed of several live action television series, films, TV & film specials, and an anime series.
Production
The series was created and chief directed by Keita Amemiya (Kamen Rider ZO, Zeiram). It is directed by Makoto Yokoyama (Power Rangers) and Kengo Kaji (Uzumaki). The creature designer is Yasushi Nirasawa, well known later as the designer of the Imagin for Kamen Rider Den-O, also designing the monsters of Kamen Rider Blade and Kamen Rider Kabuto.
