Garitas or Retenes (singular: retén) are federal inspection stations operated by the Mexican government. They are officially known as a "Garita de Revisión." They are usually located within 50 kilometers of a national border (with the United States, Belize, or Guatemala) and they function as immigration checkpoints, where documents and cargo are to be inspected.
The United States Border Patrol operates a similar series of checkpoints. These are also referred to as garitas by the Latin American community.

When you walk out of god's house
Don't complain
You've got yer gold and silver
And you've got yer pretty girl
When you walk out of god's house
Don't complain
When you trade yer money for her
Don't be ashamed
Forget yer lonely room
And yer cheap cheap solitude
When you trade yer money for her
Don't be ashamed
When his hand falls to guide you
Don't be afraid
He'll give you seeds of sorrow
To shake and make it right
When his hand falls to guide you
Don't be afraid
