Gaoyao (Chinese: 高要; pinyin: Gāoyào) is a district under the jurisdiction of Zhaoqing prefecture-level city in western Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Population: 706,000.
Gaoyao is located on the southern bank of the Xi River, just opposite to Zhaoqing City. Both are about 100 kilometres (62 mi) away from Guangzhou, the provincial capital.
Gaoyao was established as a county as early as in the Han Dynasty. It was named after Gaoyao Gorge (now renamed Lingyang Gorge) on the Xi River, and became a city at county level in 1993.
Places of interest include the Red Mansion and Gaoyao Xuegong Pavilion.
