Ganesha

Ganesha (/ɡəˈneɪʃə/; Sanskrit: गणेश, Gaṇeśa;  listen ), also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is one of the best-known and most worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. His image is found throughout India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.Hindu sects worship him regardless of affiliations. Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains and Buddhists.

Although he is known by many attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies. Ganesha is also invoked as patron of letters and learning during writing sessions. Several texts relate mythological anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and explain his distinct iconography.

Ganesha emerged as a distinct deity in the 4th and 5th centuries CE, during the Gupta Period, although he inherited traits from Vedic and pre-Vedic precursors. He was formally included among the five primary deities of Smartism (a Hindu denomination) in the 9th century. A sect of devotees called the Ganapatya arose, who identified Ganesha as the supreme deity. The principal scriptures dedicated to Ganesha are the Ganesha Purana, the Mudgala Purana, and the Ganapati Atharvashirsa.

Ganapathy (Maoist)

Muppalla Lakshmana Rao, commonly known by his nom de guerre Ganapathy or Ganapathi is the present General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Maoist), a bannedMaoist insurgentcommunist party in India.

Early life

Ganapathy was born to Gopal Rao at Beerpur village in Sarangapur mandal in Karimnagar district of Telangana. He is a science graduate and also holds a B.Ed. degree. He worked as teacher in Karimnagar district but deserted his job to pursue higher education in Warangal.

Early political life

In Warangal, Ganapathy came in touch with the Maoist cadres Nalla Adi Reddy and Kondapalli Seetharamaiah, and eventually he also decided to join the naxalite movement in the country. He was one of the early members of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) People's War (People's War Group) and grew as General Secretary of the party that is now called as Communist Party of India (Maoist), an output of the merger of People's War Group and Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI) that took place in 2004.

Ganapati (novel)

Ganapati (Telugu: గణపతి) (1920) is a famous Telugu novel written by Chilakamarti Lakshmi Narasimham. It is one of the first Telugu novels written in modern Telugu and considered among the classic works of all times.

Title

Ganapathi is the name of the main protagonist. This novel portrays the lives of Ganapathi and his two previous generations (Grandfather and Father).

Social Backdrop

The story revolves around various villages in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, India in the backdrop of social setting in 1910-1920 and satirically criticises the practice of kanyasulkam (Now abandoned/banned practice of groom paying money to the bride's father). Though it sounds comic to read, the underlying truth reflects the acute poverty in Brahmin families.

Story/Plot

This story starts with the author attending for a marriage function and waiting in the dinner line (In the olden days, Telugu people used to have their dinner functions by all the guests sitting on the floor in a line and the food is served in Banana leaf ) waiting for the server to bring Rasam (a kind of soup). Slowly he slips into the sleep and then dream.
