Rotisserie

Rotisserie is a style of roasting where meat is skewered on a spit – a long solid rod used to hold food while it is being cooked over a fire in a fireplace or over a campfire, or roasted in an oven. This method is generally used for cooking large joints of meat or entire animals, such as pigs or turkeys. The rotation cooks the meat evenly in its own juices and allows easy access for continuous self-basting.

In medieval and early modern kitchens, the spit was the preferred way of cooking meat in a large household. A servant, preferably a boy, sat near the spit turning the metal rod slowly and cooking the food; he was known as the "spit boy" or "spit jack". Mechanical turnspits ("roasting jacks") were later invented, first powered by dogs on treadmills, and then by steam power and mechanical clockwork mechanisms. The spit could also be powered by a turbine mounted in the chimney with a worm transmission for torque and speed conversion. Spits are now usually driven by electric motors.

Galvanization, or galvanisation, (or galvanizing as it is most commonly called in that industry), is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanizing, in which parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. Galvanizing protects in two ways:

The process was invented in India as early as at least the Iron Pillar constructed in Delhi during 4th century AD. The earliest known example of galvanizing of iron, encountered by Europeans is found on 17th century Indian armor in the Royal Armouries Museum collection. It was named in English via French from the name of Italian scientist Luigi Galvani. Originally, galvanizing was the administration of electric shocks, in the 19th century also termed Faradism. This sense is the origin of the meaning of the metaphorical use of the verb galvanize, as in galvanize into action, or to stimulate a complacent person or group to take action. The term galvanizing has largely come to be associated with zinc coatings, to the exclusion of other metals. Galvanic paint, a precursor to hot-dip galvanizing, was patented by Stanislas Sorel, of Paris, France in December, 1837.

"Galvanize" is a song by British electronic duo The Chemical Brothers and the first single released from their 2005 album Push the Button. It was released a week before the album's release and peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart (see 2005 in music).

The track features a distinct Moroccan Chaabi string sample from Najat Aatabou's song "Hadi Kedba Bayna (Just Tell Me the Truth)". The main hook of the song is in an unusual 6/4 time signature. The track also features rapping by Q-Tip (member of A Tribe Called Quest). In part of the song, a sample from their early single "Leave Home" plays.

It was the highest charting single in their native United Kingdom by The Chemical Brothers since "Hey Boy Hey Girl", which had also reached No. 3 in 1999. In Spain, it reached No. 1 and it held the top spot for two weeks. In Australia, the song was ranked No. 65 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004.

It won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in February 2006. That same month, an Anheuser-Busch television commercial for Budweiser Select featured "Galvanize". The song also started appearing in NBC's Sunday Night Football coverage in 2008. "Galvanize" was used as walk-on music by darts player Kevin Painter, and is currently used heavily during live T20 Cricket, specifically when a video review is taking place. The song was used to start the entrance of the athletes at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and in Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Its most recent usage is as the opening theme to the MLB Network series Hot Stove.
