Galaxy

A galaxy is a gravitationally bound system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter. The word galaxy is derived from the Greek galaxias (γαλαξίας), literally "milky", a reference to the Milky Way. Galaxies range in size from dwarfs with just a few thousand (103) stars to giants with one hundred trillion (1014) stars, each orbiting their galaxy's own center of mass. Galaxies, are categorized according to their visual morphology, including elliptical, spiral, and irregular. Many galaxies are thought to have black holes at their active centers. The Milky Way's central black hole, known as Sagittarius A*, has a mass four million times greater than the Sun. As of July 2015, EGSY8p7 is the oldest and most distant observed galaxy with a light travel distance of 13.2 billion light-years from Earth, and observed as it existed 570 million years after the Big Bang. Previously, as of May 2015, EGS-zs8-1 was the most distant known galaxy, estimated to have a light travel distance of 13.1 billion light-years away and to have 15% of the mass of the Milky Way.

    Frank Chu

Frank Chu (born March 24, 1960) is one of San Francisco's best-known eccentrics. Since 1999 or earlier, Chu has been campaigning to impeach an array of former US Presidents he considers guilty of collaborating with a nefarious network of alien populations called the "12 Galaxies" to film him against his will, to broadcast this footage intergalactically, and to embezzle the royalties he is owed as a television and movie star. Chu lives in Oakland, and commutes daily to San Francisco and nearby locales in order to reach the largest audience of passers-by and television news crews for his street protests about this labor dispute. He produces a new sign weekly through Signographics in San Francisco and supports himself through sign sponsorships and small donations from his supporters and with help from his family.

    Before his protests

According to Chu, before he started protesting, he worked as an accountant, attended UC Berkeley, and earned an associate degree in business administration from California State University, Hayward.

    COO

    COO may refer to:

  • Concept of Operations, used in Systems Engineering Management Process
  • Country of origin
  • Certificate of origin, used in international trade
  • Chief operating officer or chief operations officer, high ranking corporate official
  • Cell of origin (telecommunications)
  • Carboxylate, type of anion
  • Cobalt(II) oxide, chemical with formula of CoO
  • Cadjehoun Airport (IATA Code: COO), in Cotonou, Benin
  • Calgary Olympic Oval, Canadian ice rink
  • coo, the call of pigeons and doves
  • Summer Days with Coo, a 2007 Japanese animated film
  • Coo Coo Cal
  • Coo Coo Marlin (1932–2005)
  • Charles Owen O'Conor (1838–1906)
  • C. Odumegwu Ojukwu (1933–2011)
  • Christopher Odhiambo Okinda (born 1980)
  • Christianah Oluwatoyin Oluwasesin (1977–2007)
  • Cyprian Ojwang Omollo
  • Chief Olu Oyesanya (born 1923)
  • Cobalt(II) oxide

Cobalt(II) oxide or cobalt monoxide is an inorganic compound that appears as olive-green to red crystals, or as a greyish or black powder. It is used extensively in the ceramics industry as an additive to create blue colored glazes and enamels as well as in the chemical industry for producing cobalt(II) salts.

    Structure and properties

CoO crystals adopt the periclase (rock salt) structure with a lattice constant of 4.2615 Å.

It is antiferromagnetic below 16 °C.

    Preparation

    Cobalt(II,III) oxide decomposes to cobalt(II) oxide at 950 °C:

Though commercially available, cobalt(II) oxide may be prepared in the laboratory by electrolyzing a solution of cobalt(II) chloride.

    CoCl2 + H2O → CoO + H2 + Cl2

It may also be prepared by precipitating the hydroxide, followed by thermal dehydration:

    Reactions

As can be expected, cobalt(II) oxide reacts with mineral acids to form the corresponding cobalt salts:

    Applications

Cobalt(II) oxide has for centuries used as a coloring agent on kiln fired pottery. The additive provides a deep shade of blue named cobalt blue. The band gap (CoO) is around 2.4 eV. It also is used in cobalt blue glass.

    Chief operating officer

A chief operating officer (COO), also called the chief operations officer, director of operations, or operations director, is a position that can be one of the highest-ranking executive positions in an organization on par with the Chief Services Officer, comprising part of the "C-Suite". The COO is responsible for the daily operation of the company, and routinely reports to the highest ranking executive, usually the chief executive officer (CEO). The COO may also carry the title of President which makes that person the second in command at the firm and enjoying an equal privilege with Chief Services Officer, especially if the highest ranking executive is the Chairman and CEO.

    Responsibilities and similar titles

Unlike other C-Suite positions, which tend to be defined according to commonly designated responsibilities across most companies, the COO job tends to be defined in relation to the specific CEO with whom he/she works, given the close working relationship of these two individuals. In many ways, the selection of a COO is similar to the selection of a Vice President of the United States: the role (including the power and responsibilities therein) can vary dramatically, depending on the style and needs of the President. Thus, the COO role is highly contingent and situational, as the role changes from company to company and even from CEO to successor CEO within the same company.
